Clinical Support Worker Higher Level (CYPED)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Paediatric Unit at The James Cook University Hospital to employ a Clinical Support Worker Higher Level. The role within CYPED is to support the nursing team in providing direct patient care to children and young people.

We are an emergency department and care for children aged 0-18 years attending with medical and trauma related emergencies. We also have a co-located paediatric admission unit which GP can refer children to be seen by the paediatric team and you would be expected to work in both areas.

Applicants must have:

  • Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 (GCSE A-C/4-9)
  • Care certificate
  • Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3; - Theoretical knowledge - Experience of a range of care and related procedures - clinical observations - knowledge of relevant legislation
Main duties of the job

  • Must successfully complete the Accident and Emergency Competency Framework within 12 months of commencing the post. The post holder will be provided with education and training, and support with this completion and must be willing to attend appropriate departmental training sessions and role related courses.
Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
  • Time-keeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems.
  • Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient/service user interactions and observations and metrics.
  • Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision.
  • Ability to demonstrate the importance of holistic person-centred care and related procedures.
Experience
  • Experience of working in health or social care.
  • Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalation of changes or findings.
