Clinical Supervisor and Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner

Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has become available within the Be U Swindon Mental Health Support Team for a full time Clinical Supervisor and Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner to increase the services supervision capacity. Under expert supervision and as part of a dynamic and evolving mental health support team the successful post-holder will supervise, develop, and support Education Mental Health Practitioners/Childrens Wellbeing Practitioners to provide guided self-help, low intensity, brief, evidence-based CBT and to deliver groups and Whole School Approach Interventions. The role will also involve highlighting areas of need within the team and helping to develop the service and create quality improvement plans supported by, and in conjunction with, senior colleagues. The post holder will also hold a small caseload of 6-8 in agreement with their supervisor and some line management responsibility will be required.

Main duties of the job
  1. To work co-operatively with other professionals in children’s services, health agencies and other community-based services, including managing relationships with schools and attendance of internal and external meetings.
  2. To attend and contribute to relevant meetings as identified by management.
  3. To monitor the waiting list for a cluster team of schools and to allocate referrals via agreed protocols within the service, with support and oversight from the Senior Management Team.
  4. To advise on and/or lead practice in areas of service-and cluster specialism.
  5. To develop and evaluate existing and new areas of specialism within the service, including care record audits, school audits, participation.
  6. To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures and to report as necessary.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Completed, or currently undertaking the EMHP Supervisor Post Graduate Certificate provided by one of the nationally commissioned training providers, which provides eligibility to supervise Trainee EMHPs and qualified EMHPs and CWPs in line with their registration requirements.
  • Completed approved academic course or study in line with the CYP IAPT Low Intensity National Programme and qualified as an EMHP.
  • Registration as an EMHP with the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families in an education or health care setting.
  • Experience and understanding of safeguarding CYP and other relevant legislation and policies.
  • Experience of the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions with children, young people or their families (e.g. CBT, solution focused brief therapy).
  • Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders.
  • Experience of negotiating, problem solving and relationship management where there are disagreements or resistance within the system.
  • Experience of line management.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
  • Awareness of factors impacting on and issues facing vulnerable children and young people and families (e.g. disadvantage, poverty, disability).
  • Knowledge of child/young people development.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to service aims.
  • Able to listen to and communicate effectively with children and young people.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Able to supervise work of others.
  • Able to accurately and clearly record case notes deploying the necessary standard of writing and IT skills.
  • Able to write complex reports and produce other management information which may be used for external purposes.
  • Able to analyse and resolve problems occurring in relation to service users and or staff supervised, and able to apply innovative solutions where no precedents exist.
