We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Macmillan Clinical Specialist Dietitian, with a passion for providing nutritional care for patients diagnosed with cancer. This role is maternity cover. The post holder will hold their own caseload of patients, having responsibility for managing those diagnosed with a variety of cancer types, including pancreatic and lung cancer. You will support more junior members of the team with supervision and attachments. This post would suit a Band 6 looking to move to a more specialist area, or a Band 7 looking to work in a different area.

The post holder will work closely with the current Macmillan Clinical Specialist Dietitian and you will work, learn and develop alongside our therapy colleagues in speech and language, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, based within a new, purpose built building. There will also be the opportunity to work in the brand new Dyson Cancer Centre.

Main duties of the job

Based as part of the Dietetic Department at the Royal United Hospitals Bath Foundation Trust. The post holder will be responsible for developing a comprehensive Dietetic service for oncology patients not already under an existing Dietetic service, including those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and other cancers where malnutrition is common at diagnosis, such as lung and colorectal, served by the hospital, acknowledging the support of Macmillan in this work. Key contacts include dietetic colleagues, Oncologists, specialist nurses, home enteral feeding teams.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

1. Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent leading to HCPC registration as a Dietitian
2. Evidence of further post-graduate study and continuous professional development relevant to post

Desirable

1. PENG course qualification or equivalent
2. Post registration training in communication, behaviour change skills and teaching

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

1. Post-registration relevant clinical dietetic experience in oncology
2. Experience in all methods of nutritional support, including oral nutritional support, enteral feeding and parenteral nutrition
3. Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams
4. Experience of working with palliative patients
5. Evidence of participation in clinical governance issues in relation to dietetic practice.
6. Evidence of participation in audit activities in relation to dietetic practice.
7. Awareness of risk, clinical incidents, safeguarding and Health & Safety issues.

Desirable

1. Behaviour change/motivational interviewing
2. Experience of providing supervision to junior members of staff and/or students
3. Experience of discharging patients from hospital on home enteral feeds
4. Experience of evaluating Dietetic services
5. Experience of working with pancreatic cancer patients, including advising on pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy
