This post holder will lead on the strategy for improving cardiorespiratory education and training within the physiotherapy service at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
This is a cross service/site role that engages with all of the paediatric and adult therapy teams. As such, the post holder will work collaboratively with the therapy management team as well as clinical team members to operationalise their vision of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy education and training across the department.
The post will sit within the Cardiac and Respiratory Specialty. You will be required to work across all three sites, and across all Specialties and Teams.
The post holder will also be expected to work as part of the on-call and weekend respiratory rosters.
Main duties of the job
- To work collaboratively with both the Senior Physiotherapists and Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists working in the adult and paediatric respiratory specialities to support in delivery of the respiratory training.
- To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of education, training and development across the Physiotherapy workforce.
- To work clinically alongside registered and non-registered Physiotherapy staff promoting and delivering education.
- To lead on the development and implementation of external cardiorespiratory courses.
- To lead on the cardiorespiratory physiotherapy simulation-based education.
- Assist with the planning, delivery, coordination of mandatory/statutory/induction and essential to role training for the Physiotherapy workforce.
- Design and lead education and training programmes for the specialty to ensure all therapists within the specialty are complying with best evidence-based practice.
- Actively facilitate ongoing staff development and support through clinical supervision and act as a supervisor and mentor for the clinical area.
- Support the Education and Practice Development Lead and Lead AHPs to carry out training needs analysis as required.

- To provide clinical and professional leadership and advice to the Physiotherapy speciality team, to provide teaching, advice and provide recommendations to MDT colleagues in relation to patient care.
- Design and lead education and training programmes for the specialty ensure all therapists within the specialty are complying with best evidence-based practice.
- Actively facilitate ongoing staff development and support through clinical supervision and act as a supervisor and mentor for the clinical area.
- Support the Education and Practice Development Lead and Lead AHPs to carry out training needs analysis as required.
Person specificationEssential criteria- Registered Physiotherapist
- Experience at a high level of Acute Resp Physio clinical work
- Experience of working in an Acute Hospital
- Experience of working with Adult and Paeds pts in a resp PT capacity
- Can demonstrate Teaching and Education skills to a high level
- Previous experience of Teaching Resp PT skills
- Evidence on ongoing CPD in the area of Resp Physio
- Can demonstrate experience of leading change
- Can demonstrate skills in self-management and time management
- Can demonstrate experience and skills in project management and achieving results
- Can demonstrate skills in data collection and analysis
- Understanding of CIP schemes and potential opportunities for income generation schemes
- Experience of performance management
- Shows passion for area of work
- Evidence of facilitating student placements
Desirable criteria- Teaching experience in external agencies such as local universities

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
