Job SummaryWe're excited to announce a permanent opportunity for an HCPC-registered (or soon to be registered) Clinical Scientist - Bioinformatician to join the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub (NE&Y GLH) bioinformatics team.

- You can choose to work at one of the following Trusts within the NE&Y GLH: Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, or Newcastle Hospitals Trust.
We welcome applications from final-year Scientist Training Programme (STP) trainees in Clinical Bioinformatics, and registered Healthcare/Clinical Scientists from other relevant disciplines. If you're not yet HCPC registered, we still encourage you to apply. You'll work towards registration and will be appointed on a salary band that reflects your experience.
Main duties of the jobReporting into the NE&Y GLH Lead Bioinformatician, your responsibilities will include:- Help deliver a high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused service across specialist areas within the department.
- Work with the NE&Y GLH Lead Bioinformatician and team to provide expert bioinformatics support for diagnostic platforms used across NE&Y GLH, including developing software and methods for data handling, analysis, and interpretation.
- Collaborate with the Lead Bioinformatician and the NE&Y GLH bioinformatics team to plan activities and strengthen the bioinformatics capabilities of NE&Y GLH.
- Provide expertise and interpret complex data to assist colleagues with generating and authorising patient reports.
- Contribute to research, development, and audits in the fields of genetics and bioinformatics.

QualificationsEssential:- 1st or 2nd class honours degree in Biological Science with a strong genetics component, or Bioinformatics or Computer Science.
- Masters level qualification in relevant discipline.
- Registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (or sufficient appropriate evidenced experience to enable registration process).
- Evidence of CPD (Continuous Professional Development).
ExperienceEssential:- Supervised in service experience.
Desirable:- Have worked with data from NGS.
- Experience in Linux systems administration.
- Experience of software development.
- Experience in high-dimensional data management and analysis.
Knowledge and SkillsEssential:- Knowledge of statistical principles and tests.
- Knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
- Programming skills in a modern programming language such as PERL, Python or JAVA.
- Information technology skills (hardware and software) relevant to large dataset manipulation.
Personal AttributesEssential:- Ability to communicate complex ideas to non-specialists.
- Awareness of the requirements of the role for manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Self-confident but also able to work well as part of a team.
