Job description

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust provides child and adult mental health services, learning disability, wellbeing, older people's and eating disorder services across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to cover for maternity leave in the Clinical Safety Environment Officer role who will work within the Health, Safety and Security Team on a fixed term basis for 1 year.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with strong communication skills to provide clinical related safety advice and support the Trust in meeting its legal obligations with current legislation and regulations (including local policies and procedures).

The post holder will work as part of a team supporting the Health and Safety Advisers and Security Manager, and will report to the H&S Manager.

The Trust supports "Hybrid" working and will be flexible about working from home where possible and work bases will be provided in Norfolk or Suffolk. The role will involve a mixture of working from home and deploying to sites where physical presence or support is required.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the provision of proactive specialist clinical safety support, guidance and training in order for the Trust to achieve high standard of patient and staff safety.
  • The post holder is responsible for advising, training, monitoring and reporting progress on environmental clinical safety matters involving but not limited to, ligature points and clinical risk mitigations and best practice.
  • The post holder will be expected to support with ligature walk rounds, assisting with ligature queries and producing reports, statistics and information both internally and externally. The post holder will also support in identifying consistent clinical mitigation for environmental health and safety and supporting the implementation through risk assessment.
  • The post holder will be expected to liaise with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Care Quality Commission (CQC) and other such bodies to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations in the field of health, safety and welfare.
  • Assisting with the management of the Safety and Security Team.
  • Assisting and advising on clinical health, safety and welfare issues.
  • Assisting with legislative duties, identifying pre and post incident risk assessments and ensuring robust ligature safety systems are in place and monitored.
  • Acting as a first point of contact for ligature matters.
  • Assisting in the production of reports and statistics, both in-house and for external bodies with regards to ligature and clinical environmental safety.

  • Nursing degree
  • Professional registration
Desirable criteria
  • Health and Safety qualification (NEBOSH NGC or equivalent)
  • PTLLS or equivalent education and training award.
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience of working on an inpatient ward and completing ligature assessments
  • Planning and implementing safety measures to reduce or eliminate risks in a clinical environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in analysing and resolving complex health and safety matters
Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Ability to interpret complex H&S legislation and identify the implication for the Trust.
Other
Essential criteria
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel independently
