Job description

Clinical Research Practitioner/Research Nurse

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (Sandwell Base)

Job Overview

Applications are open for an experienced clinical research practitioner (CRP) to join our research team.

Due to the nature of this role, we require an NMC registered nurse.

This is a 12-month Fixed Term post for Maternity Cover.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in an acute environment and ideally have research experience, on both industry and academic studies. You will predominantly work on the respiratory and cancer research portfolio. You will be working closely with the multi-disciplinary team to support and deliver research projects relevant to our local population. You will be required to work autonomously and will also be responsible for identifying new research opportunities, coordinating, and managing a number of clinical trials.

Main Duties of the Job

In addition to assisting clinicians and other members of the research team, you will support research patients throughout the research process, ensuring the well-being and safety of patients at all times. You will perform study-related procedures, including participant assessment, informed consent, clinical examinations, and reporting adverse events. The post holder will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability and initiative to work independently and manage a patient caseload across a variety of trials and studies. You will be required to prioritize your own workload and be responsible for the management of a caseload of clinical trial patients.

The post holder will also be required to work on other research studies across other specialties depending on portfolio requirements.

About Us

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organization with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care are at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban center that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens this year and will provide care to our local population from first-class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH. If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continue your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.

We have three strategic objectives:

  • Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive, and engaged staff.
  • Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do.
  • Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives.

Job Responsibilities

Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust has an extensive research portfolio covering most Trust Specialities, some of which are regional specialist services, and most types of research. Research has a high profile in the Trust and is supported at all levels of senior management.

We have a large multi-disciplinary research team and are keen to widen participation for healthcare professionals from all disciplines to ensure that we have the best skill mix for our portfolio.

The Trust has multiple hospital sites, and the successful post holder could work in any or all of them. We have a Clinical Research Facility based in Outpatients in Sandwell General Hospital, which includes clinic rooms, newly fitted with technology for virtual clinic attendance, a procedure room, and a research laboratory.
