Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for appropriately qualified Clinical Psychologists with experience in adult neuropsychology. This temporary post is to cover a period of leave at Linden Lodge Neuro-Rehabilitation unit.

Essential Criteria

  1. Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's behavioural standards.

Training & Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  1. Post-graduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology.
  2. Eligible for Chartered Psychologist status.
  3. Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Psychologist.
  4. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Additional postgraduate qualification in neuropsychology or ongoing post-doctoral training in clinical neuropsychology with a view to achieving the BPS Division of Neuropsychology registration qualification.
  2. Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies or assessment methodologies.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  1. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups especially on an inpatient neuro-rehabilitation basis, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings.
  2. Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  3. Experience of working with clients with a neurological condition and their carers.
  4. Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist / Neuropsychologist.
  2. Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of Neuro-Rehabilitation unit or acute hospital.

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential Criteria

  1. Highly developed skills to communicate technical and clinically sensitive information (orally and in writing) to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  2. Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience of working within a multicultural framework.

Analytical and Judgment Skills

Essential Criteria

  1. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  2. Doctoral level knowledge of research design.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. people with additional disabilities).

Planning and Organisation Skills

Essential Criteria

  1. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
  2. Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Training in supervision of other psychologists.

Physical Skills

Essential Criteria

  1. Ability to use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
  2. Fine dexterity required for the administration of specialist neuropsychological test materials.
  3. Ability to remain seated for up to an hour at a time, and for many hours per day.

Other Requirements Specific to the Role

Essential Criteria

  1. Up to date immunisations are required (including TB and HepB).

Desirable Criteria

  1. Ability to drive between QMC and City Hospital sites.
  2. Ability to work flexible hours to suit the service and its clients.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro-rata basis for part-time workers.

The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

  1. Transfer of Information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
  2. Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post may be subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£42.90 for enhanced and £22.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month's pay).
