Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to provide input in the form of specialist assessments and psychological interventions, team formulation, consultation, training, service evaluation and supervision of other qualified staff.

The teams work systemically to understand and support the significant impact and challenges experienced by our service users. To do this, we work with the network around the person (e.g., Social Care, Education) and work closely with commissioners. As a Clinical Psychologist you will have experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working as you will need to attend regular MDTs, CETRs and EMDTs.

Your role will entail working directly with the service users and their families or carers and, as such, experience of working with young people who have mental health needs and autism, and Learning Disability is essential.

The people referred to our service have highly complex needs, e.g., enduring behaviour which challenges, self-injurious, aggressive, or violent behaviour, or other risky presentations which could lead to harm to themselves or others. Understanding these needs, risks, and behaviours within the context of our service users lived experiences and their autism and/or learning disability is the foundation of our work and we use Team Formulations to help us to do this. You will have a key role in these processes, along with specialist assessments, interventions, and evaluations, which will involve working to understand relationships within families.

Other responsibilities include providing consultation within the MDT and externally, joint working with other agencies, participation and involvement in service development, research and business meetings and providing supervision (where appropriate) to other psychology staff or team members providing psychologically informed interventions.

This is an exciting time to join our team as we mature and expand and continue to look for innovative ways to support the people we work with. If you are passionate and motivated to work with people with Learning Disability and Autism then we want to hear from you.

Applicants who do not meet the criteria for the band 8a role will also be considered for the band 7 role and job description (available under additional documents on NHS Jobs). If appointed to the band 7 role this will be a development role with progression to the band 8a role upon successful completion of a preceptorship programme. It is expected that this will be achievable within a period of up to two years and will be dependent on the experience of the successful candidate. In the event that elements of the preceptorship programme are not fully met the role will remain as a band 7. This will be further discussed as part of the interview process and with the preferred candidate as appropriate. Applications from newly qualified/soon to qualify clinicians would be welcomed.

The role is that of a community based practitioner and applicants will be required to travel across the Trust, so car owner/driver or suitable alternative transport arrangements will be essential to enable you to undertake the job. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS Check.
