Job summary

We are currently seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist who has experience working with children with neurodevelopmental difficulties including ASD, Intellectual Disabilities and ADHD and long term health conditions to join our new and innovative Hull and East Riding Neurodevelopmental service.

The post holder will have the opportunity to be part of the specialist assessments for neurodevelopmental conditions and interventions for children with neurodevelopmental difficulties alongside providing supervision to MDT members, consultations and training to other agencies. This role will also include some level of service development and influence in local relevant strategies for young people with neurodevelopmental conditions. If you have relevant skills and experience with complex clinical work, supervision and consultation in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency setting, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

You will join a busy and well established team with a broad range of specialities including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychology and Psychiatry.

This is an exciting time to be joining the service due to the extensive transformation work being undertaken by not only our service, but also the wider Neurodiversity work within which our service sits. This is developing a multi-agency approach to meeting the needs of children with neurodiversity and their families. We also have a strong focus on evidence based practice. There is a commitment to ongoing staff training to enable practitioners to have accredited therapeutic and supervisory skills. We are also working towards having more participation from young people and their families in directing service development.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion
  • Advanced/expert understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
  • Knowledge of and experience in the use of a wide range of psychometric and other objective assessment tools as applied in neurodevelopmental and mental health work and across the ability range
  • Skills in co-ordinating programmes of care, and providing consultation and specialist advice to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, and application of this to research and development activity within the service area
Desirable

  • Evidence of policy implementation and development
  • Broadly based knowledge of the theory and practice of assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions and advanced psychological therapies for the treatment of children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental and mental health needs
  • Knowledge of policy and psychological theory relating to people with intellectual disability, neurodevelopmental presentations and associated complex behavioural and mental health needs.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology or its equivalent
  • Clinical supervision training for doctoral trainees
Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Breakaway training or equivalent
Communication

Essential

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate complex information using a range of interpersonal skills
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of an MDT
  • Experience communicating psychological formulations to professionals and patients/carers
Desirable

  • Ability to teach and train others using a variety of multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
