The Position

At Roche/Genentech Pharma Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG), we are determined to transform drug development and realize our Pharma Ambition to deliver 20 transformative medicines addressing diseases with the highest societal burden by 2029. We are looking for a Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader to lead and drive the delivery of our Oncology-Hematology Portfolio. This senior people leadership position holds significant accountability for clinical operations strategy and execution as well as enterprise collaboration.

Cross functionally we conduct global clinical trials, analyze results, monitor safety, and work with regulatory authorities to provide truly differentiated medicines to patients. Our primary therapeutic focus areas are Oncology, Hematology, Neurology, Immunology, Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism. The Opportunity:

The Oncology-Hematology Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader in PDG at Roche/Genentech is responsible and accountable for the strategy and delivery of the PD portfolio of programs and studies in Oncology-Hematology. As the Oncology-Hematology Therapeutic Area Leader, you will:

Develop and Evolve Oncology-Hematology Portfolio Strategy
Accountable for the overall PD clinical operations strategy for the Oncology-Hematology portfolio. Continuously refine the strategy in response to the evolving landscape to ensure clinical trial delivery aligns with the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) and One Pharma Strategy.

Oversight and Risk Mitigation for Portfolio Delivery
Maintain active oversight of asset and study delivery to monitor portfolio status, proactively identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure seamless execution of clinical trials.

Strategic Stakeholder Alignment and Collaboration
Drive alignment among cross-functional stakeholders, including PDG, APO, COEs, early and late-stage development teams, and enterprise leaders. Act as a key operational voice influencing decision-making and optimizing portfolio delivery.

Operational Leadership and Innovation
Leverage analytics, portfolio optimization expertise, and innovative approaches to accelerate clinical trial delivery, improve efficiency and quality, manage budgets, enhance probability of technical success (PTS), and ensure a patient- and site-centric approach, including fostering inclusive research.

Representation and Influence Across Roche Enterprise
Serve as the PDG voice in the Oncology-Hematology therapeutic areas, building and maintaining collaborative relationships with senior leaders across Roche and external partners, such as health authorities, patient advocacy groups, and vendors.

Leadership and Team Development
Lead and develop a matrixed organization of ~150 employees, including 10-12 direct reports. Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, high performance, and alignment with Roche’s leadership principles. Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) to build an empowered and diverse talent pipeline.

Collective Leadership with an Enterprise Mindset
Represent Oncology-Hematology as part of the Portfolio Delivery Leadership Team. Demonstrate collective leadership to serve the broader PDG and PD organization while focusing on patient, site, and enterprise objectives.

People Management and Administrative Oversight
Drive engagement, provide regular performance feedback, and manage administrative responsibilities related to team operations, including Workday tasks and addressing employment-related matters.

Who you are:

  • 15+ years pharmaceutical clinical Operations experience with at least 10 years being in global clinical operations Strategy Leadership. Additional commercial or relevant experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge in the area of Oncology/Hematology including external trends and issues in the global Oncology-Hematology landscape, and development and delivery of large endpoint-driven clinical trials.
  • Comprehensive understanding of global Pharma Clinical development in international settings.
  • Proven success in strategy development and execution using analytics, data-driven decision-making, and a track record of expanding access to underserved populations while meeting or exceeding ambitious goals.
  • Experience managing large, matrixed organizations, including leading direct reports and people leaders, recruiting and developing high-performing teams, and fostering collaboration and trust with stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English with additional language skills as an asset, and flexibility for frequent national or international travel based on business needs.

This position can be located at the Basel, Switzerland; South San Francisco, United States; Welwyn, England; or Mississauga, Canada HQ sites. Expectation of ongoing and sustained campus presence at the site in compliance with local requirements.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $227,600 - $422,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
