Summary:
The Clinical Nutrition Practice Coordinator and educator (CNPC&E), utilizing innovative and flexible solutions, evidence-based practice, and effective operations, establishes an environment that transforms professional growth, role model competence, and proficiency. The CNPC&E facilitates the achievement of professional outcomes with all assigned staff and the provision of evidence-based nutrition care.
In collaboration with the Director of Clinical Nutrition (director), the CNPC&E is responsible for participating in the interview and selecting team members. For one year, all staff newly hired will have a direct reporting relationship with the CNPC&E and a dotted line reporting relationship with the director of Clinical Nutrition to facilitate continuous performance feedback during the initial orientation phase and pivotal first year of employment at BMC. This will ensure successful professional enculturation, excellence in practice, and Clinical Ladder advancement.
The CNPC&E assists the director with staff competence to ensure excellence in practice and create a safety culture. The CNPC&E leads the development of clinical nutrition practice in collaboration with the director. The overall outcome of professional development is acquiring knowledge, skills, and attitudes that translate into practice, contributing to the safety of patients/families, and providing quality care. In addition to developing knowledge, skills, and attitude, clinical excellence includes evaluating and measuring current clinical knowledge, proficiency of technical skills, application of critical thinking, and performance.
The CNPC&E functions in various roles, including educator, facilitator, change agent, team member, consultant, and researcher.
Job Responsibilities:
- Expert knowledge
- Demonstrates expert knowledge and skill in clinical specialty
- Continually seeks and engages in continuing education opportunities appropriate to the BMC patient population
- Evaluate and implements up-to-date evidence-based and evidence-informed practice guidelines
- Demonstrates innovative/creative approaches to problem solving
- Provides patient/family-centered care
Maintains staff competency- Performs ongoing competency evaluation
- Conducts chart audits and provides feedback
- Reviews staff clinical ladder submissions annually
- Verifies CDR registration and MA license status
Creates and implements staff development plans- Conducts annual and semi-annual evaluations as assigned
- Utilizes daily assignments to provide opportunities to expand staff scope of practice
- Inspires, transforms, and achieves outcomes in staff learning through formal/informal teaching (including bedside teaching)
- Develops and executes tri-annual education programs
- Chairs Standards Committee
Evaluate emerging evidence and implement- Develops/evaluates educational materials
- Educates, mentors, and acts as a consultant in the delivery of care that translates into excellence in knowledge, skill, and leadership at the bedside
- Mentors staff in career/professional development, role transition, and succession planning
Manages new hire onboarding process- Arranges for workspace and office supplies
- Orients staff to all pertinent software, including EMR
- Mentors staff in the synthesis of information and critical thinking
- Mentors staff in all areas of clinical practice, including PN and EN management
- Validates clinical competency
Exemplifies fiscal responsibility by effectively and efficiently managing resources to achieve desired outcomes- Chairs Formulary Committee
- Evaluates enteral product to determine the need: clinical and cost/benefit
- Compiles and submits end-of-month data for benchmarking
- Plans daily unit assignments and assesses the need for per diem coverage
- Conducts regularly scheduled inventory of patient education materials and places orders as needed
- Maintains Clinical Nutrition folders on the Department Intranet page

Bachelor's Degree, Food & Nutrition Dietetics, Human Nutrition or related field; Completion of accredited DPD program
Preferred Education
Master's Degree, Nutrition. Required for those certified as RD in 2024 and after that.
Required Work Experience:
1) 10 years of clinical nutrition experience
Preferred Work Experience:
More than 10 years of clinical nutrition experience in acute care.
Supervisory or project management experience
Project management experience
Prior teaching experience
