Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for doctors wanting to join our enthusiastic and dynamic team and to gain experience in Emergency Medicine in a busy Emergency Department and Major Trauma Centre.

We are looking for candidates at clinical fellow level with a level of experience post F2 (i.e. minimum 2 years full time post-graduation).

Applicants who have not worked in the NHS must have a minimum of 12 months experience in Emergency Medicine. This needs to be based full time in an Emergency Department.

Experience of working in the NHS or an equivalent healthcare system is essential.

There are some traditional 100% clinical posts and also a few posts split 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical time. See attached JD.

St George's is one of the only hospitals in the country with 24-hour ED consultant presence on the shop floor. All doctors are extremely well supported with lots of opportunities for teaching and practical experience.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Fellows are required to perform clinical work in the Emergency Department, as the first doctor to see patients with the range of problems that present to a busy ED.

The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the smooth running of the department, as required.

Clinical Fellows will be expected to participate in audit and encouraged to take on research or quality improvement projects depending on the interests of the successful applicant(s). There will be an opportunity to present the results and assistance is given with the preparation and submission of work for publication.

There are specific tasks for the 20% non-clinical roles e.g. education fellow managing medical student teaching, trauma fellow involvement in trauma governance and meetings. These will be discussed in more detail with successful candidates on uptake of the post.
