Job description

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust includes major teaching hospitals. A wide range of equipment is used for medical work - diagnosis, monitoring, therapy and technical work - throughout its wards, theatres, and clinical departments.

The Clinical Engineering Department delivers high quality medical device maintenance repair and management services within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).

An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join MFT Clinical Engineering Team as Clinical Engineers, providing innovation, support and continuous improvement for our ORC workshop and our cross site IT and database systems.

Main duties of the job

Our department is accredited to the ISO9001:2015 Quality Standard and is responsible for the management of all types of reusable medical devices. The varied and interesting work includes database cleansing, process improvement and report writing using SQL, database query and vb.net, as well as Clinical Engineering support for our medical device users and patients. You are expected to have knowledge of basic scientific and engineering principles along with awareness of Health and Safety legislation. You will be mainly based at workshops in Manchester Oxford Road but will need to be flexible as you will also be working at various Hospitals throughout Greater Manchester. You will need to have a logical and methodical approach to your work. You will need to be able to work as part of a team or on your own initiative and have good interpersonal and communication skills.

It would be advantageous if you have experience in the field of engineering although this is not essential to the role. We will provide a comprehensive induction programme and you will be appraised on a yearly basis with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate.

About us

MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England with a turnover of £2.8bn and is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We're creating an exceptional integrated health and social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.

Bringing together 10 hospitals and community services from across Manchester, Trafford and beyond, we champion collaborative working and transformation, encouraging our 30,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you'll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We've also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient and staff experience, operational effectiveness and driving research and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our Electronic Patient Record system which launched in September 2022.

We're proud to be a major academic Research Centre and Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What's more, we're excited to be embarking on our Green Plan which sets out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
