Job summaryA fantastic opportunity has opened to appoint a fixed term Clinical Educator (NMAHP Research) at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals.
This exciting post is pivotal to delivering our commitment to meet the research needs of our workforce to benefit the communities we serve. You will be responsible for leading, developing and delivering a dynamic range of research focused education, training and support activities and projects. This includes the 4Ps Researcher Development Programme, as well as other training and support. Your role will support and sustain ongoing work to facilitate NMAHPs at all stages of their career to engage with research.
You will be a registered Nurse, Midwife or AHP with a strong interest in driving forward a thriving research culture. You will join a wider team which includes our Clinical Project Coordinator, and our Study Support Assistant. You will have direct links with our Joint Professor of Nursing (Clinical Academic), our Trust charitably funded Researcher Development Institute (RDI) Fellows, and will work closely with a range of NMAHP Clinical Academics and research active clinicians at different stages of their research careers.

NO AGENCIES PLEASEMain duties of the jobThis is a suitable post for an experienced registered Nurse, Midwife or AHP with established clinical and educational skills, who wishes to further develop practice within NMAHP research capacity-building, Trustwide.
The primary purpose of this role is to take a lead on the development and delivery of on-going education, training and support within Nursing, Midwifery and AHP (NMAHP) research capacity-building. This may include, for example:
- Review and development of content for NMAHP research education and training programmes
- Future-proofing and scaling-up of NMAHP research education and training programmes
- Delivery of NMAHP research education and training sessions where applicable
- Development and maintenance of bank of facilitators and speakers for NMAHP research education and training programmes
- Operational delivery and application of internal and external NMAHP research policy work
- Operational responsibility for evaluation of NMAHP research education, training and support
- Providing support and signposting to NMAHP research opportunities and resources

Job descriptionJob responsibilities- The primary purpose of this role is to take a lead on the development and delivery of on-going education, training and support within Nursing, Midwifery and AHP (NMAHP) Research capacity building, encompassing both Postgraduate and Undergraduate curricula outcomes and continuing professional development
- Support the agenda of the Executive Chief Nurse to sustain the Trusts reputation as a Centre for Excellence for high quality NMAHP Research
- Identify all opportunities for themselves and others where learning can take place, both formally and informally
- Support the Trust Lead (NMAHP Research) in the development of research related Training Needs Analysis and support Clinical Leads, ward and departmental sisters/charge nurses to ensure appropriate training is compliant with Trust standard
- Contribute to the delivery of the corporate agenda for up to 40% of the time
- Contribute to corporate training and education. May lead practice development initiatives
- Develop appropriate competency based clinical skills education and develop relevant competency assessment documents, for approval by the appropriate Trust Committee e.g. Clinical Role Development Group or Nursing and Midwifery Practice Development Group
- Support the Trust Governance and Patient Safety agenda through active participation in the work of the Nursing and Midwifery Practice Development Group
- To maintain the delivery and quality of services provided within the care environment including the care delivered, setting of nursing standards and leadership of the team working clinically with staff where needed to help the acquisition of skills, knowledge and competence
- To provide a nursing lead as a member of the NMAHP Research team

- Influence change and development of practice, utilising the most recent evidence base
- Contribute to performance review of NMAHP Research related education programmes
- Abide by Trust policies when dealing with complaints, accidents and incidents
- Maintain discipline within the service, abiding by Trust Disciplinary Procedure Policies
- Participate and chair interviewing panels in the appointment of staff, and be aware of legislation and local personnel policies affecting the employment of staff
- Implementation of evaluation audits to measure the impact of educational programmes and analyse and disseminate the results
- To deliver a competency based induction, where appropriate, for new staff and students to the directorate
- Facilitate the provision of Clinical Supervision ensuring this is a support mechanism available to all staff and which is embedded in practice
- Identify areas of good practice and provide opportunities for staff to share this across the organisation

EXPERIENCEEssential- Research or audit experience
- Extensive post registration experience some of which will be at a senior level
- Experience of working at a senior level in an area requiring a broad range of complex and technically challenging skills
QUALIFICATIONSEssential- Registered Nurse (appropriate to Branch), Midwife or Allied Health Professional
- Current NMC or HCPC Registration as appropriate
- Degree
- Masters level study (on Master's pathway)
- Meets NMC requirements for mentorship or HCPC equivalent if relevant to role
- Evidence of on-going professional, personal and academic development
