Job summary

Would you like to be part of shaping psychological provision for older people across our community service? We are a supportive team that values innovation, fosters development and is passionate about the care of older people and their families.

We are looking for Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to join our team providing high quality community services to older people within mid Surrey.

Our Psychology department will work with the successful candidate to develop a personalised development plan to further your knowledge and skills in the psychology of older people, in line with your career interests and the needs of the services. We hold regular CPD sessions in addition to clinical supervision, management supervision, and peer support. Our department has expanded rapidly in the past few years allowing for further opportunities to take forward clinician interests. We have strong links to local training courses and we value the contribution of Psychologists in Training.

We offer a comprehensive induction programme, with regular supervision and a good peer support network.

Main duties of the job

This exciting role will involve working with a degree of autonomy alongside providing the opportunity to develop your therapy and neuropsychology skills. You will conduct detailed assessment, formulation and therapeutic interventions for people living in the local community.

You will be working collaboratively with members of a well-established multi-disciplinary team, where psychology is highly valued in the team. A key part of this role will be using clinical leadership skills to influence teams in embedding psychosocial approaches within everyday practice. You will also be supporting and supervising other team members.

There will be opportunities to lead on quality improvement projects and to contribute to the development of psychology provision across older people's services. We support the undertaking of leadership and supervisor training to enable you to develop your skills and progress in your role.

The opportunities in this role would suit both experienced psychologists who are interested in working with Older People, as well as newly qualified psychologists.

The post involves travelling throughout Surrey in line with service needs and therefore, a car driver will be required.

To supervise and teach unqualified staff including students. Promoting a psychological perspective both within teams and sharing with other colleagues. To support team managers/ Clinical leads in the development and delivering of effective services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent
• HCPC registration

Desirable

• Evidence of completing further training relevant to the job role

Experience

Essential

• Experience of applying Psychological approaches with older people with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles
• Experience of delivering positive behaviour support or similar interventions with people with cognitive impairment
• Experience of teaching and supervising other professions and pre-qualified Psychologists
• Experience across a range of psychological models including systemic, behavioural and individual therapeutic.
• Driving License for community-based roles involving client visits it is essential to hold a driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

• Experience of assessing and/or working with people with dementia
• Understanding of issues of particular relevance to mental health in later life
