Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychologist - Enhanced Healthy Living Service

Hours: Part-time (10.5 hours/week)

Salary: Circa £43,000-£46,000 per annum (pro rata), depending on experience

Length of contract: Fixed term 19 months with the possibility of extension depending on funding

Location: To work mostly remotely, main base is The Brandon Centre, 26 Prince of Wales Road, London NW5 3LG. Some travel across London may be required.

Reports to: Clinical Lead of the Enhanced Healthy Living Service

Accountability: The post holder shall be accountable to the Council of Management of the Brandon Centre through the Clinical Lead of Training and Consultancy and the Chief Executive Officer.

Main duties of the job

The main function of this post is to work with colleagues in the Enhanced Healthy Living Service who support families where children are overweight or obese. This post will mainly assist with delivering the Families, Food and Feelings parent programme both as a group and one-to-one, carrying out pre-group assessments and post group reviews with parents. The post holder will also deliver quarterly webinar trainings to professionals and offer consultation to other services. The post holder will do some joint assessments with external MDT colleagues. In addition, supporting the assistant psychologist with some data input, scoring outcome measures and admin tasks related to the monthly childhood obesity MDT.

Job responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

- To maintain confidentiality in accordance with national, local and Brandon Centre policies, with specific consideration to those under the age of 16 years.

- Attend all team meetings and trainings as required.

Supervisory duties

- To attend regular supervision where appropriate with a clinical or counselling psychologist.

- To keep notes of your supervision sessions and store these securely.

- To report any risks or safeguarding concerns to the supervisor.

- To be open and responsive to feedback.

- To provide supervision to trainee psychologists or assistant psychologists, where necessary.

Data entry and processing:

Use of MS Access, Excel, Patient Source (our electronic patient record system), Eventbrite for the following:

- Accurately recording and amending information to acceptable data quality standards using the manual and electronic systems in place and any new systems as they are introduced.

- Analysing and entering outcome measure data completed by parents and professionals.

- Capturing new referrals accurately and liaising with referrers to let them know the outcome of their referral.

- Assisting to prepare and produce service data reports required by commissioners, the Board of Trustees and senior service leads as required.

- Attending meetings and workshops relating to the collection and reporting of outcome measures on a service and national level.

- Keeping up to date with current NHS guidance and requirements for the Mental Health Service Data Set.

- Supporting with the organisation of monthly clinical MDT meetings which includes liaising with professionals around availability, following up on action points, some minute taking and agenda preparing.

- Setting up and monitoring webinars on Eventbrite and responding to enquiries as necessary.

- Accurately inputting patient notes from pre-group assessments and post group reviews onto Patient Source.

Service Evaluation

To support in conducting audits on different aspects of the service using our existing records. Audit examples may include collating particular data that we routinely report on.

Clinical

Supporting with the coordination of, and attending, monthly Childhood obesity MDT meetings which includes a consultant paediatrician, nutritionists, professionals from Early help and social services.

- Inviting relevant professionals to MDT meetings.

- Liaising with parents referred to the service.

- Conducting pre-group assessments with parents.

- Delivering the Families, Food and Feelings parent programme.

- Conducting post group reviews with parents.

- Taking on a small number of 1:1 parent sessions which follow the content of the established parent programme.

- Developing and presenting quarterly webinars for professionals run on topics related to childhood obesity and mental health.

- Providing consultation to other professionals and services.

- Conducting joint appointments or assessments with other professionals.

- Providing supervision to trainee psychologists and/or assistant psychologists, where necessary.

Administration

Support the Enhanced Healthy Living Team with administrative tasks as required, which may include checking the healthy living email inbox and responding to messages when required, support with correspondence to other professionals or parents, recording referral data.

Other

There may also be other opportunities to be involved in new projects, clinical work and training opportunities as they come up if agreed with your Line Manager.

Any other duties which commensurate with the post.

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development

Proactively participate in one to one meetings with line manager, identifying own learning needs, and ways that these may be met.

Communicate issues of concern relating to the behaviour, conduct or practice of colleagues to the director as appropriate.

Report untoward incidents and any other relevant information to a clinician, operations manager or director and to complete an incident report if necessary.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychology or its equivalent.
  • Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC.
Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working therapeutically with young people.
  • Experience of working with sensitive data and data record keeping.
  • A working knowledge of safeguarding children and young people.
  • Experience of working with diversity.
Desirable

  • Experience of working with parents.
  • Experience of supervising other professionals.
  • Experience of providing consultation to non-psychological professionals.
Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Interest in Health Psychology.
  • Excellent IT skills, including use of full Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills. Ability to prioritise workload effectively and work to strict deadlines using a systematic approach.
  • Ability to communicate well on sensitive subjects with a range of stakeholders in a non-judgemental way.
