Clinical Associate Psychologist in CAMHs Acute Care

We have an opportunity available for a Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP) to work 22.5 hours per week on a fixed term 12-month contract to join our CAMHS Acute Pathway, specifically our inpatient service.

Pebble Lodge is a 10-bed national service that provides inpatient care for young people whose care needs are best met in a hospital setting.

In Dorset, we are transforming our child and adolescent mental health service into a Family Mental Health model that embraces and adopts the Thrive framework. The inpatient service falls within the Getting More Help and Getting Risk Support quadrants of Thrive.

We aspire to offer families a service that is built on compassion, social connection, and participation with our peers and parent peers, and a service that is understanding of the need to work in partnership with the wider network of education, social care, and third sector services in order to deliver support for families based on their needs.

Main duties of the job

To undertake specialised psychological assessments, treatments, and other types of appropriate clinical intervention with individual clients/groups of clients and research activity.

To support the promotion of a psychologically minded service for children and families through delivery of a strong formulation based approach on the nature, causes, and maintaining factors of psychological difficulties and strengths. To be informed by a broad range of potentially conflicting clinical, theoretical, and conceptual models, the empirical, experimental, and clinical literature base, and the results of assessment.

To work closely with the Psychology team in enhancing the psychological understanding and provision of evidence-based psychological interventions for children, young people, and families.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Skills and Training

Essential

1. Single or Joint Honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) and MSc CAP
2. Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society via qualification recognition or by alternative route.
3. Graduate level knowledge of psychological theory and research.

Job Specific Experience

Essential

1. Previous experience of working with adults, children and their families who experience mental health difficulties.
2. Experience offering short term evidence-based interventions.
3. Experience in developing and delivering group work and/or teaching groups of children.
4. An ability to write correspondence and reports to a high standard.
5. Ability to manage demanding workload to agreed deadlines and timescales.

Desirable

1. Previous experience working with children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and/or ADHD and/or other developmental disorders.
2. Previous experience of working with children in the community.
3. Previous experience working with children and young people in a CAMH service.

Managerial/Supervisory Experience

Desirable

1. Experience in teaching on in-house (professionals/peers) training sessions.
2. Supervisory skills/experience.

Personal Qualities

Essential

1. Ability to liaise successfully with colleagues in other sectors, health service, social services, and private and voluntary organisations.
2. Ability to communicate verbally with patients/carers and colleagues.
