Job description

Client Accountant – Cambridge – £32,000 plus annual bonus

My client, a well-established and independent Estate Management firm based in Cambridge with offices in London, Hertfordshire, and Cambridge, are seeking an experienced Client Accountant to join their team in Cambridge.

You will be supporting the Finance Director manage the service charge accounts of a portfolio of up to 150 residential blocks and ensure all processes are followed through thoroughly.

Duties:

  • Import daily bank receipts from Barclays. These are automatically allocated to properties provided references from leaseholders are correct. Any that do not match are individually allocated.
  • Post and allocate daily receipts from remittance advices provided by letting agents who pay multiple service charges.
  • Post any additional bank transactions.
  • Daily bank reconciliation of Block & Estate Client Account.
  • Enter annual service charge budgets prepared by Property Managers on to Veco to charge Service Charges to leaseholders.
  • While entering budget total, ensure company’s fees for the year i.e. management fee, accounting fee, and the sundry fee for each estate are in line with budgets.
  • Reconcile the leaseholder account summary for the legal fees and admin fee every month.
  • Month end Client Account 3 way Reconciliation for The Property Institute (ARMA).
  • Monitor generic emails, distribute as required and resolve any that relate to service charge queries.
  • Oversee electricity contracts and arrange the fitting of smart meters when required – they are aiming to get all estate supplies fitted with Smart Meters.
  • Deal with E-on Next and Pozitive Energy regarding problems and errors on the account, including overcharging, billing address amendments, and credit refunds.
  • Collate cheques received through the post, list them, complete the paying-in book, and arrange for them to be banked.
  • Quarterly sinking fund bank reconciliation and listing accounts that are no longer in use to request Barclays to close.
  • Raise monthly electricity invoices for estates that have a municipal supply with separate sub-meters. This is currently just 2 estates.
  • Assist with managing other utility company accounts as required i.e. water company and BT regarding lift phones.
  • Ensure GDPR is followed at all times.

Experience Required:

  • Experience within property accounts.
  • Good understanding of service charge processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and display flexibility to operate in a dynamic environment.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to help others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with other stakeholders within the business.

Hours: Office based Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm.

Other details:

  • 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays, increases 1 day after two full years of service capped at 30 days.
