Job description

We're looking for a Clerk of Works to join our client's team, a leading housing association based in North London. This role is responsible for ensuring quality control, compliance, and adherence to construction and retrofit standards for the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) program and Planned Works.


Key Details:

  1. 9-month fixed-term contract
  2. Hybrid working: Base office in Ware, Hertfordshire, or Wembley
  3. Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

Your Role:

  1. Conduct frequent site inspections to assess construction quality, ensuring compliance with SHDF guidelines and building regulations.
  2. Monitor retrofitting and energy efficiency measures, such as insulation, heating systems, airtightness, and sustainable building practices.
  3. Ensure contractor compliance with specifications, materials, and construction methods, reporting non-compliance and recommending solutions.
  4. Maintain accurate records and compliance documentation, issuing reports and audit trails for internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Liaise with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery and high-quality standards.
  6. Provide technical advisory support, ensuring construction best practices and SHDF sustainability goals are met.
  7. Engage with residents, explaining retrofit works, addressing concerns, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

What We're Looking For:

  1. HNC/HND or equivalent in Building Studies, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience in a Clerk of Works, quality assurance, or compliance role, ideally in social housing or public sector projects.
  3. Strong knowledge of construction standards, building regulations, and energy efficiency measures.
  4. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to various sites as required.
  6. Membership of the ICWCI (Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate) or CIOB is desirable.
