Job description

Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Class Teacher to join a specialist school in Essex, providing high-quality education and support for young learners with complex needs.

The school caters to male learners aged 10-16, all of whom have Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs). Many students have additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, and social communication difficulties. The school environment focuses on trauma-informed approaches and therapeutic interventions to support students’ progress both academically and socially.

The Role:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in line with the school's curriculum.
  • Create a safe, structured, and stimulating environment for students with SEMH needs.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff to tailor learning for individual needs.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, using de-escalation strategies and interventions.
  • Support students’ holistic development, including participation in off-site activities such as Forest School, therapy farm visits, and social events.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Willingness to participate in training, including physical intervention strategies where required.
