The opportunity:

Joining a department that is friendly and fast paced, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing the Guidewire platform.

You will use agile and lean methods and be a creative problem-solver as part of a cross-functional team, caring deeply about writing good code and constantly strive to enhance the user experience, possessing a strong desire to keep up to date with the latest development techniques.

You will be responsible for maintaining and developing the Guidewire platform to the requirements of the award-winning International Claims department, whilst maintaining compliance with Markel and regulatory standards.

What you’ll be doing:

1. Customizing Claim Centre: Writing code to add features that aren't available through configuration.
2. Integrating with other systems: Developing integrations between Claims Centre and other systems, such as PAS, document management systems, and third-party data providers.
3. Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and fixing technical issues.
4. Monitoring the Claims Centre platform, including but not limited to: identifying requirements for specific alerts, creating alerts for events and thresholds, accessing Datadog logs and dashboards for error analysis, monitoring DXC downtime and communicating to users.
5. Updating the platform, including but not limited to: performing a 3-way merge of the updated code, validating the updated version, adopting new features added in the update.
6. Gathering requirements: Working with clients to understand their business needs.
7. Designing solutions: Translating business needs into functional specifications and design documents.
8. Collaborating within their Scrum team colleagues (and wider Software Engineering team) to provide Markel with a world-class Software Engineering capability.
9. Producing high quality IT solutions and services against agreed designs and standards.
10. Ensuring that the appropriate technology and level of complexity is used when delivering solutions.
11. Using tools to deliver & maintain a high standard of code quality and appropriate documentation.
12. Taking ownership to investigate and resolve service functionality related issues when necessary.

Our must-haves:

1. Guidewire development experience (ClaimCenter preferred).
2. Experience of coding RESTful APIs.
3. Experience of coding in multiple programming languages such as C#, Java, Python etc.
4. Experience with relational databases and SQL – MS SQL Server & Transact SQL proficiency preferred.
5. Experience supporting business database applications.
6. Familiarity with design thinking and customer centric design.
7. DevOps, CI/CD, test automation and cloud deployment.
8. Experience gained in insurance claims or insurance claims related business, or other regulated entity.
