Job description

This broker doesn’t believe in gimmicks, and has no call centres or self-service online portals - just teams of dedicated insurance professionals who pride themselves on offering a first-class, personalised service. This client-centric approach is clearly serving it well; the company is enjoying a sustained period of growth and is now recognised as one of the top 100 brokers in the country.

This growth comes organically, as well as through winning impressive volumes of high-quality new business and making well-thought-out acquisitions of other, complimentary, broking houses. It is as a result of this growth that the need has arisen to appoint an additional Commercial Claims Handler to join the team within their plush office in North Leeds, ideally in a senior capacity.

Here, you will handle a caseload of circa 300 files, and whilst these can be tweaked initially to reflect your experience to date, they will eventually cover a wide range of losses such as EL, PL, Products Liability, PI, D&O, Property, and Motor. As one would expect from one of the country’s largest independent brokers, these claims could be arising from almost any conceivable sector, from motor traders and construction clients, through to tech firms and members of the professions (and everything in-between!). It is fair to say that this broker’s Claims Handlers are much more heavily involved than at many competing firms, and you will play a key part in progressing claims from notification through to final settlement, ensuring that your clients receive the best possible settlement in line with their coverage.

Whilst we welcome applications from candidates with more limited exposure to claims handling (gained at either a broker, insurer, or adjusting background), we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with some supervisory or managerial experience, who could also assume more ‘senior’ responsibilities within the team, such as coaching, mentoring, or being involved in a number of projects across the business.
This firm is well-known for promoting from within, and it is entirely feasible that your role could develop into a managerial or client-facing Claims Executive position.

You will receive a generous basic salary (entirely negotiable but anticipated to be to circa £40,000), plus a comprehensive range of benefits, including support towards professional qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute. This firm also supports flexible working, and you will be welcome to do this upon completion of your probation.
