Job description

Astute’s Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for a Civil/Structural Engineer to join their team which can be based from any of their sites in the UK.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Programme Director, you will be responsible for:

  1. Ensure that asset design specifications support safe operations, maintenance, and longevity of the facility, considering the ongoing operational activities.
  2. Evaluate technical proposals from Consultants and Contractors for new facility designs, modifications under the Management of Change (MOC) process, or maintenance repairs on behalf of the organisation.
  3. Oversee decision-making regarding trade-offs and design choices to optimise projects while aligning with value objectives.
  4. Facilitate coordination of civil engineering activities among the organisation, the Owners Engineer, project designers, and constructors.
  5. Supervise civil design progress from Pre-FEED to Detailed Design, manage interfaces, and ensure compliance with all specifications and requirements for seamless process integration.
  6. Provide necessary information for planning and permitting processes, engaging consultants for specialised studies when required.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, fulfilling all planning and permitting obligations related to civil engineering activities.
  8. Maintain accurate and timely reports on KPIs, progress, key risks, and project issues, sharing updates with the business.
  9. Actively contribute to enhancing the efficiency and performance of the organisation’s program.
  10. Work closely with the Operations team to ensure a smooth pre-operational phase and successful project start-up, maximising its value.
Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  1. Chartered Engineer
  2. A Degree in Civil or Structural (or equivalent) Engineering
  3. Ideally have a professional qualification in Project Management
Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Civil/Structural Engineer role would suit someone who has:

  1. Extensive experience working on large scale projects such as Power General (EfW, Biomass, CCGT, Coal, etc), Petrochemicals, etc.
  2. A good understanding of project development phases and the requirements of pre-FEED, FEED and Execution.
  3. Experience in the design of EfW or Waste Management Engineering facilities.
  4. Good knowledge of CDM regulations.
  5. Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with all stakeholders.
