Civils/Structural Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity to join our collaborative team based in Great Yarmouth and onsite at Sizewell B/C as a Civils/Structural Engineer. The successful candidate will support the delivery of construction engineering, safety case updates and project management to several major projects within the nuclear power sector. Such projects include site wide modifications at Sizewell B, civil engineering projects to support the construction of Sizewell C and safety case work for EDF Design Authority. Across the Risktec south of England nuclear wider team individuals are involved in work supporting commissioning activities at Hinkley Point C and safety case documentation for Small Module Reactor Generic Design Assessments.

Role Description and Responsibilities

This role provides an opportunity to be part of an exciting, dynamic, and rapidly growing nuclear team across the south of England. Typical responsibilities may include:

  1. Supporting the delivery of major construction-based safety cases.
  2. Providing specialist civil/structural input and advice to resolve construction problems.
  3. Facilitating hazard identification in cooperation with CDM regulations and optioneering workshops.
  4. Production of formal technical reports, safety cases and other project deliverables on time and to budget.
  5. Implementation of modifications to site.
  6. Supporting construction team and client during the construction process through problem solving.
  7. Supporting the build of safety case through justification of design.
  8. Reviewing design proposals and producing design substantiation reports.
  9. Authoring testing and commissioning strategies and functional test procedures.
  10. Support to plant operability, including condition monitoring and identification of plant faults.
  11. Supporting equipment reliability reviews, including plant walk downs.
  12. Reviewing maintenance routines/strategy.
  13. Management of projects, project teams and interfacing with clients.

This role offers the opportunity to support the development of wider company initiatives, such as industry networking and learning. The role also provides the potential to support other Risktec sectors such as oil and gas, clean energy, transport, defence, and conventional power in the future.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. Background in Civil or Structural design.
  2. Knowledge and experience of construction sites and compliance with CDM regulations.
  3. Familiarity with work management processes.
  4. Industry transferable experience.
  5. A drive to ensure successful delivery and continuous client satisfaction by delivering pragmatic and proportionate solutions.
  6. The ability to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently where needed.
  7. Clear communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong organisational skills.
  8. Strong analytical and logical skills.
  9. The ability to travel within the UK.
  10. Experience within nuclear engineering would be beneficial but is not expected.

Additional Information

Due to the nature of the work, the candidates must have a suitable background that will allow them to achieve UK security clearance to a minimum level of BPSS (please note that this is very difficult to achieve within the timescales for non-UK and you will be subject to a screening process prior to interview to ensure that you meet the security clearance criteria).
