Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Civil Litigation Solicitor to join our well-regarded team. This is a unique opportunity for a litigator with a passion for interesting and challenging cases which will include Trusts of Land (TOLATA) disputes and Pet Custody claims. A strong foundation in the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) is essential. Experience in Trusts of Land (TOLATA) and Contentious Probate is highly desirable.

You will be handling a varied caseload of civil litigation matters, with the opportunity to head the in pet-related dispute resolution – an area of growing public interest and legal complexity.

The successful candidate will demonstrate empathy, strong technical skills, good understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and a passion for developing client relationships in emotionally sensitive matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters, including pet custody disputes.
  • Advise and represent clients in TOLATA claims, particularly where cohabitation or ownership disputes arise.
  • Handle contentious probate matters including will challenges, claims under the Inheritance Act, and executor disputes.
  • Conduct litigation from pre-action stage through to trial in accordance with the CPR.
  • Draft pleadings, witness statements, and legal opinions.
  • Attend mediations, hearings, and trials.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments (e.g., Family, Private Client) when cases cross legal disciplines.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with 3+ years’ PQE in civil litigation.
  • Proven experience in handling civil related disputes, either within family or civil litigation contexts.
  • Sound knowledge and application of the CPR.
  • Experience in trust of land disputes and contentious probate highly desirable as well as pet disputes is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Client-focused with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • A keen interest in animal law or welfare issues.
  • Existing client following or network (beneficial but not essential).
  • Mediation or ADR experience.
