Job description

Job Title: Civil Engineer

Contract Type: Perm Full Time

Salary: Up to GBP48,000 depending on skills and experience

Job Overview

Join our dynamic engineering team and take a leading role in shaping innovative water and wastewater solutions. As an Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering detailed designs, providing expert technical support, and managing key elements of impactful projects. This role offers the chance to work on various high–profile investment initiatives, from infrastructure to non–infrastructure projects, where your skills will be challenged and enhanced. You’ll have the opportunity to lead smaller design schemes, contribute to major developments, and ensure the seamless delivery of accurate, efficient design outputs that make a real difference.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Follow established procedures to ensure safety, sustainability, and compliance are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Take responsibility for your own health and safety, conducting risk assessments and wearing PPE as required.
  • Provide technical expertise on water and/or wastewater projects as part of a collaborative project team.
  • Assist the Principal/Senior Engineer in managing and coordinating various project activities.
  • Review and verify datasheets, calculations, and drawings to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for project documentation and stakeholder communication.
  • Perform quality assurance checks to ensure project deliverables meet high standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex design issues, providing innovative solutions.
  • Proactively pursue professional development, with guidance from line managers, to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Research and apply industry best practices to support innovative standardization efforts, including the promotion of digital design concepts.

About You

  • MEng/BEng/BSc or HNC in Civil Engineering, Environmental, or a numerate science–related subject.
  • Experience in water/wastewater engineering or asset management within the UK Water Industry.
  • Progressing towards or already a member of a relevant professional institution.

Package

This role will be full time Monday to Friday 37 hours a week.

Southern Water operates a hybrid approach between our Falmer office and home.

We are offering a salary of up to GBP48,000 per annum depending on skills and experience as well as other benefits including:
