An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dudley Children's Continence Service to support our nurse led team in community clinics. The successful nurse will have experience working with school aged children with bladder and bowel problems involving completing holistic assessments and developing personalised plans.
The service will offer both clinical and managerial supervision in order to support the individual.

Main duties of the job
- Support school aged children with continence issues who reside in the Dudley locality.
- Run nurse led clinics within the community.
- Offer specialist support to children and their families, providing a comprehensive assessment and individualized care plan.
- Provide specialist toileting advice for children who are slow to acquire full continence (toilet training) and offer containment product assessment where appropriate.

Job responsibilities
- Responsibility for Patient Care (including monitoring, diagnostics + investigations)
- Work with children who are slow to acquire faecal and urinary incontinence.
- Support children with a moderate degree of global delay or physical conditions which hinder continence.
- Work autonomously within continence clinics without supervision, accountable for own professional actions.
- Ensure that all patient records are completed and maintained in line with Trust policy, observing patient confidentiality at all times.
- Provide specialist assessment, support and treatment for children aged 0 -19 years who have more complex continence needs.
- Enhance quality of life for people with long term conditions.
- Understanding of child anatomy and physiology.
- Clear understanding of bowel conditions and faecal impaction.
- Use a varied array of skills to devise continence packages for children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, communication difficulties, and complex health care needs.
- Refer children and young people to other specialists and agencies as appropriate.
- Deal with patient complaints in a positive and sensitive way in accordance with Trust policy.
- Practice competencies developed, upholding the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Gather information to provide specialist advice to assist child protection investigations.
- Promote a patient-focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
- Act as an advisor to primary health care staff on matters relating to patient management and provide clinical, professional advice.
- Support the transition of young people from paediatric to adult care, liaising with the adult Urology and Gastroenterology team as appropriate.

NMC registered
- Registered Nurse
- Demonstrates experience for assessing, developing, implementing/reviewing specialist continence care programmes including both bladder and bowel care.
- Experience of implementing education and training programmes for a defined age group, carers and relevant community staff.
- Special knowledge in management of bladder and bowel conditions.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to organise own workload and manage time and resources effectively.
- Ability to plan and document care on an individual basis.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Extensive experience working with children and in the community.
- Ability to develop audits/standard setting and develop guidelines/policies.
