Childcare Lawyer

London Borough Council
Rate: £50-£60 per hour - Negotiable DOE
Contract: 3-6 months initially

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a London Borough Council who are seeking an experienced Childcare Lawyer to join their Children's Social Care team on an initial 3-6-month contract. The successful candidate will be experienced in dealing with a variety of Childcare matters, working on behalf of a local authority.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a caseload of complex public childcare matters and give expert advice to the Children's Social Care department.
  2. Advising upon and conducting proceedings relating to the care and protection of children and young people.
  3. Providing legal advice and support to clients, including elected members and senior officers.
  4. Represent the council at Family court when necessary.

Key Requirements:

  1. To be a Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX with degree level qualification (or equivalent), or to have substantial demonstrable experience.
  2. You will be able to demonstrate experience of dealing with Childcare legal work including emergency applications, care proceedings, adoption and Inherent Jurisdiction.
  3. You will be able to conduct your caseload with minimum supervision and will be accustomed to working at pace in a busy team.
  4. Experience of conducting advocacy and judicial reviews will be an advantage.
