Band 8A Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

Main duties of the jobYou will be a qualified psychotherapist with current registration with the ACP professional body. You will hold a caseload of young people with complex mental health needs and will take responsibility for providing assessments and therapeutic treatment programmes.

Person SpecificationQualifications
Essential
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training, management qualification or equivalent and experience
- Relevant qualification or significant experience in relevant clinical children's field
- Master's level pre-clinical training at a training school recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapist (ACP) and post-graduate training at doctoral level in clinical child psychotherapy at a training school accredited by the ACP.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Understanding of child development and family functioning
- Knowledge of the range of young people's mental health problems and mental health services
- Working knowledge of health, social services, education and the voluntary sector, together with the relevant legislation regarding both children and mental health
- Knowledge of key policy and guidance relating to Children and young people.
Experience
Essential
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within Psychotherapy.
