Purpose of the role

A critical role within the organization, responsible for executing global risk management strategies, aligned with business objectives. The CRO is a member of the management board and drives the company from risk management perspectives, ensuring that risk matters are fully understood and considered in decision making. The CRO develops, implements and oversees the operation of global risk management frameworks, ensuring the company adheres to internal and external requirements and is aligned with industry good practices, while pro-actively identifying and mitigating higher risk areas that may impact business operations and the realization of strategic objectives. The CRO also monitors key developments in the business and control environment, proactively highlighting emerging risks that may impact the risk profile of the company. The CRO reports into the CEO, and has a functional reporting line into the CRO of Aegon Ltd.

Location: This role can be based in any of our Global Offices, with travel as required.

Key responsibilities
  • The development and maintenance of risk management frameworks and internal policies, aligned with the company’s business strategy and internal and external requirements.
  • Strategic advisor to business leaders for risk related matters. This involves providing a view on business developments, including strategic projects and product related initiatives.
  • Identify and assess key strategic, operational, model, portfolio and compliance risks. Ensure appropriate risk responses based on high-quality risk analyses and management information.
  • Foster strong risk culture throughout the company through first line risk ownership, supported by subject matter experts in risk management, and robust training and awareness programs.
  • Provide risk reporting and analyses at different organizational levels, based on qualitative and quantitative aspects, including risk indicators, metrics, stress testing and scenario analyses.
  • Oversee and steer the development and maintenance of an effective crisis management and incident response framework, including pro-active assessments of operational resilience.
  • Monitor ongoing compliance with investment mandates and policies, and effectiveness of the control environment. Investigate and report upon any related breaches and incidents, ensure proper understanding of root-causes and appropriate remediation actions being completed.
  • Lead the risk management teams, in collaboration with the leaders of the business lines, assessing and safeguarding required capabilities. This includes recruitment, development, and retention of talent needed to support realization of business strategies and objectives.
Candidate profile
  • Ability to develop and implement risk management strategies that align with the company’s overall business strategy and objectives. Strong strategic and conceptual thinking.
  • Proven track record of managing global risk management programs, preferably within a dynamic and international business environment. Focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, to effectively engage at executive leadership level, providing evidence based recommendations and influencing top level decision-making.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and collaboration with internal stakeholders, ensuring the risk teams are well-informed, and have timely and effective involvement and voice.
  • >15 years of experience in risk management or related field, with strong understanding of risk frameworks and risk methodologies. Broad knowledge of asset management for institutional clients, both public and private investment strategies, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Educated to relevant master’s degree level, likely complemented with advanced degrees in risk management, finance or related field. Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Demonstrating ethical behavior and integrity in all interactions, fostering a culture of trust and accountability in the organization, particularly when facing more challenging circumstances.
  • Experience in leading people and teams, with a proven ability to attract and retain top talent.
