The Role

As COO, you'll play a pivotal role in scaling our operations and delivery capabilities, directly improving the lives of thousands of unpaid carers.

Reporting to the CEO, you'll join our senior leadership team at a crucial growth stage, with the opportunity to build and lead your own team while implementing the systems and processes that will underpin our expansion.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with hands-on experience of scaling startups and delivering operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Operational Leadership:

    1. Oversee and optimise Mobilise’s business operations, ensuring the company operates efficiently and effectively.
    2. Design, implement and oversee robust management information systems.
    3. Develop and implement scalable processes to support growth.
    4. Lead Mobilise’s delivery against contract commitments, ensuring high-quality outcomes for local authority clients and carers.
    5. Direct oversight of HR, legal, IT operations and organisational compliance (regarding both contractual commitments and corporate obligations e.g. B Corp).
  2. Team Management:

    1. Provide leadership and mentorship to the team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
    2. Foster a high-performance culture aligned with our social mission.
    3. Establish and monitor performance metrics (OKRs), ensuring accountability across teams.
    4. Line-manage our Operations Manager, and recruit further roles to the Operations team.
  3. Strategic Planning:

    1. Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to refine and execute Mobilise’s growth strategy.
    2. Identify and implement operational improvements to drive growth.
    3. Contribute to product and service development strategy.
    4. Help shape the company's scaling roadmap, including our approach to hiring exceptional talent.
  4. Financial Oversight:

    1. Work closely with the Head of Finance and the CEO to manage budgets, forecasting, and resource allocation.
    2. Ensure financial discipline and sustainability during the scaling process.

Candidate Requirements

  1. Genuine commitment to social impact and improving lives.
  2. Commercial mindset with a focus on sustainable growth.
  3. Proven experience in scaling a startup through significant growth (£1m - £10m ARR), ideally with direct responsibility for operations.
  4. Strong understanding of working with public sector clients, with experience in local government or health and social care considered a major advantage.
  5. Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of managing cross-functional teams.
  6. Highly organised, with a detail-oriented approach to delivering results.
  7. Strategic thinker with the ability to manage both high-level vision and day-to-day execution.
