Gloucester Cathedral
Chief Operating Officer
Salary: £65,000 - £70,000 pa
Location: Gloucester
Closing Date: 17:00 on Monday 13th January 2025
This is a hugely exciting opportunity to join Gloucester Cathedral as it enters a new season of its story. The cathedral has stood as a symbol of faith and hope since 1089 and, whilst the place and expression of that mission has evolved, the commitment remains unchanged. At the heart of how we currently work is our vision ‘to be in tune with heaven and in touch with daily life’ through all we do, whether that is our welcome, hospitality, learning, music or spirituality. With a new Dean now well established in post, the Chapter has refreshed its vision and priorities for the next period and, with these ambitions in mind, we are now seeking a new Chief Operating Officer to support the Dean and Chapter in delivering them.
Our new Chief Operating Officer will be key in ensuring our ambitions are achieved together, as a positive and unified team, by their mature, collaborative and facilitative leadership. As COO, you will work with the Dean and Chapter to shape and deliver our future activity, bringing an entrepreneurial and transformational mindset to do so. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Cathedral, juggling multiple priorities to ensure that our worship, welcome and commercial activity operate in harmony to optimise the impact of the resources at our disposal. You will nurture our people, as well as our unique character and vision, to ensure that all who engage in the cathedral’s community experience hospitality and encounter.
You will bring a significant track record of leading a complex and diverse operation and can unite, inspire and develop a multi-disciplinary team. We are genuinely open minded as to your background as we seek a broad set of skills for this unique role but, wherever you come from, you will be able to authentically imbibe and project the cathedral’s primary role as a Christian place of worship. You will be a proven leader, with outstanding relationship building skills across diverse stakeholders and able to provide assurance and effect change at board level. With demonstrable financial and commercial acumen, you will bring vision, innovation and the ability to drive change in a way that respects the traditions and values of Gloucester Cathedral and the Church.
We want our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion for all to be reflected in the composition of our staff. We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates from communities currently underrepresented at senior levels in the cathedral.
