The Chief Officer reports to the Ships Master and is authorized to assume command of the vessel in the absence of the Master. Responsibilities of the Chief Officer include:
Being medically fit and qualified in accordance with international standards.
Supervising safety and vessel familiarization for new personnel.
Managing cargo calculations, loading, unloading, and ballasting.
Standing navigation watches as per agreed rotation.
Updating the Planned Maintenance System and maintaining equipment inventory.
Assisting with performance appraisals of Deck Ratings.
Executing measures to prevent pollution and acting as the designated Safety Officer on board.
Monitoring equipment inspections and maintaining a defects register.
