Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 37 Hours per week
This is a fantastic career opportunity for an experienced and ambitious individual to take on the lead professional finance role in the Council. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will join the senior leadership board and be a visible and accountable leader across the organisation. You will work to ensure that our financial strategy aligns with and supports our strategic objectives and provide high quality professional advice on key decisions.
As our Chief Finance Officer, it’s essential that whoever takes on this role is a qualified accountant. But it’s equally important that you have the breadth of perspective and experience to make a corporate contribution beyond your financial expertise. Commercial acumen and ambition will be important assets, alongside a thorough appreciation of risk and how it should be managed at a corporate level.
It’s important that your personal and professional values align with ours. That means a commitment to achieving the very best for the citizens of Colchester with the tenacity and resilience to see things through to completion. Your ability to establish positive professional relationships at all levels will enable you to offer true and objective professional advice that supports strategic decision making, even when that advice may not be what others want to hear. You can expect to work closely with elected members, offering professional advice on complex issues and decisions – so it’s important that you already have experience of working within a political setting.
You should be able to offer assured professional and personal leadership to your team, drawing the best from others and supporting their professional development. The willingness and ability to mentor and help develop the existing Head of Service is an important element of the role. An experienced manager in her own right who is a key support to the Chief Finance Officer but who is looking to develop in the Deputy Section 151 role.
Colchester is an exhilarating and challenging place to work. It’s a place where your skills can make a real difference to our community. And a place where you can achieve your full professional potential.
