Reports to: The Board of Trustees Chairperson

Location: Wave Project Head Office, Newquay, Cornwall and national travel

The Wave Project is now looking for a new CEO to lead a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.

We are looking for an outstanding values based leader who is an experienced CEO. Principal responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing the organisation
  • Role model The Wave Projects values
  • To work with the Chair and the Board of Trustees to formulate and regularly review the charity’s vision, mission and strategic plans
  • Provide effective leadership of the staff and volunteer team, ensuring the organisation is structured, resourced and staffed to deliver the strategic ambitions
  • To deliver agreed operating and financial plans that achieve the vision, mission and objectives of The Wave Project
  • Ensure that the charity is well administered and meets its responsibilities in line with the Charity Commission and relevant legislation
  • Ensure the organisation remains responsive to the needs of the charity’s clients and can demonstrate the value of the services provided and the impact of its work
  • Have responsibility for day-to-day financial management of the charity, including preparation of budgets for agreement by the Trustees and ensuring that income is maintained and expenditure is controlled in line with budgets and that potential risks are identified and managed
  • Ensure that the charity has the appropriate policies, procedures, systems and processes in place and that they are being implemented.

Promotion of the Charity

  • Maintain effective networks with all principal supporters and stakeholders.
  • Seek opportunities to expand and promote the role of the charity
  • Ensure the charity is presented in an appropriate and professional manner to its stakeholders
  • Represent the charity in public forums such as speaking at conferences; attending sector policy forums; producing written material for the charity’s own publications/promotional material as well as any appropriate external channels such as trade press etc.
  • Lead policy and advocacy activities including maintaining and developingrelationships with relevant Government departments and regulators and with other significant decision makers
  • Represent the charity in the press and public appearances when required
  • Fundraising and income generation
  • Working with the Head of Fundraising to develop income generation strategies to maintain and enhance the level of funding from existing sources and develop new funding streams
  • Develop and build relationships with partners, supporters, funders and potential funders to maximise opportunities for income generation
  • Provide direction and support to all staff and volunteers involved in income generation activities and ensure team efforts are coordinated
  • Working with the Board of Trustees
  • Ensure appropriate presentation and reporting on the progress of the organisation and on all matters, relevant to the discharge of its responsibilities
  • Work with the Chair to plan effective Board meetings and develop papers and policy proposals for Board discussion and decision. Ensure an annual calendar of meetings of the Board and its principal subcommittees is in place
  • Provide in a timely and appropriate manner information that will assist the Board of Trustees in carrying out its responsibilities
  • Support the Chair in ensuring the continued engagement/involvement of all members of the Board
  • As appropriate, monitor and advise on the composition of the Board of Trustees, its committees and the process of self-assessment and development.
