Job Description

The Chief Executive Officer leads Shire activity with a strategic vision, overseeing both community development and economic growth while ensuring the sustainable and innovative use of resources. Accountable to the Council for the management of all aspects of the Shire's activity, the CEO is also responsible for:

  • Leading the Shire with a strategic vision, developing policies and strategies that resonate with Shire values
  • Building an executive and management team that engages with and builds capacity in the community
  • Cultivating partnerships with various stakeholders, from Council, community, and business, to tackle regional challenges and opportunities collaboratively
  • Ensuring the sustainable and timely delivery of all projects within budget
  • Oversight of sustainable planning and urban design, with an emphasis on genuine community engagement
  • Providing responsible and sustainable management of the Shire's financial resources, built and natural environment, infrastructure assets, and staff.

The Successful Applicant

To be successful in the role, the Shire is looking for a candidate with:

  • Previous executive level experience in Local, State, or Federal Government or a not-for-profit organisation
  • Highly developed strategic thinking, conceptual and analytical skills with a strong focus on values-based organisation performance
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills for effective advocacy and negotiation
  • A proven record of positive organisational change management and cultural transformation
  • Experience in constructively and proactively engaging with diverse communities
  • Contemporary skills in the management of physical and financial resources, budgets, and other assets.
