Job Purpose

We are looking for a Chef to join our team to prepare menus and meals on a day-to-day basis for the residents of our Care Centre. The successful candidate will ensure that a high standard of hygiene is achieved and maintained in the kitchen. To ensure that all kitchen equipment is maintained in good order and stored properly. Advise on kitchen supplies and stock levels. Manage kitchen staff and rosters.

About The Role

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare weekly menus in consultation with D.O.N. – Identify specific individual dieting requirements.
  2. Order all stock on a weekly basis and ensure that budgets are strictly adhered to.
  3. Manage all kitchen staff and work with Roster.
  4. Ensure that all raw and cooked meats and all other cooking ingredients are bought with nutritional values in mind and are fresh on arrival in the Home.
  5. Prepare and serve meals that are suitable for elderly persons bearing in mind that some residents may have difficulty in swallowing and chewing.
  6. Ensure that all meals are served on time.
  7. Ensure that all food is well presented and that all plates are hot.
  8. Prepare weekly orders of food and kitchen supplies and consult with Chef Manager or D.O.N. or, if absent, with A/D.O.N.
  9. Wash utensils and pans and ensure that kitchen is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  10. Daily cleaning of all bench’s tops and under shelves.
  11. Weekly defrosting of refrigerators and maintain daily tidiness of fridge.
  12. Weekly cleaning of dishwasher and dishwasher area and food warming trollies.
  13. Preparing vegetables and meats as required.
  14. Storing all dry and frozen food and vegetables and dairy products as appropriate.
  15. Ensure correct disposal of all kitchen waste.
  16. Carry out monthly stocktake of food & delph.
  17. Attend staff meetings and Fire Drills.
  18. Be familiar with statutory regulations concerning Food, Health and Safety in the kitchen and the Home.

Other Requirements

  1. Comply with all other procedures as set out in the Company’s Policies & Procedures, manual, staff notices and other company information.
  2. Perform other appropriate duties, which Chef Manager, D.O.N. or A/D.O.N. may assign.
  3. Culinary Expertise: Proven experience as a Chef Grade 1 or in a similar role within a fast-paced kitchen environment. Knowledge of nutrition and special dietary requirements is essential.
  4. QQI Level 6 in Culinary Arts: A recognized qualification in Culinary Arts at QQI Level 6 or equivalent.
  5. Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to effectively manage and inspire a team. Experience in training and developing kitchen staff is desirable.
  6. Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to food preparation, plating, and presentation, maintaining consistently high standards of quality and hygiene.
  7. Time Management: Excellent organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines within a demanding kitchen environment.
  8. Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues, patients, and other stakeholders.
