Job description

Job Title: Systems Test Engineer

Location: Warwick University

Rate: £27.71ph via an Umbrella Company (Inside IR35) or £20.35ph PAYE

Employment Type: Contract (Currently financed until 31/03/2026)

Hours: Standard 40 Hours Per Week

Duties:

This role is key to enabling the laboratory and supports the Lead Engineer for the ongoing operation of the Environmental Chassis Emissions Dyno with Power Electronics assessment capability. You will be in direct technical engagement with University academia and 3rd party engineering teams supporting your lead engineer in understanding the test requirements in detail.

As part of the team, you will be responsible for the operation of the environmental chassis emissions dyno and the necessary physical activity of pre-check and preparation of the vehicle for test, emission test benches, and test reporting, including but not limited to the installation and instrumentation of the unit under test. We will be working collaboratively and in conjunction with the laboratory customers. Depending on the customer, you may be required to report and provide explanation of the resulting test data.

As a core objective, you will be involved with your Lead Engineer for the operation of the Environmental Chassis Emissions Dyno with Power Electronics assessment capability. The Chassis Dyno capability within the laboratory is expected to be utilized by the customer and sought after in terms of 3rd party projects, as such you will be engaged with one of the key laboratory capabilities.

You will liaise with customers to derive complete technical test requirements, consult, understand, and develop test methodology. You will also operate facilities and support all processes to defined H&S and other auditable requirements to ISO standards, 16949, 14001, etc. You will monitor and work with the team to transfer knowledge to new team associates where required, derive and deliver familiarization of equipment for both new and current personnel as required. Core accountability of physical operation and upkeep of the facility is held by this position.

Skills Required:
  1. Experience in AVL SCADA, PUMA, CAMEO & ETAS INCA, as applied to a manual and automated engine test facility ICE emissions measurement and initial quality evaluation, both in test bed and chassis dyno applications.
  2. Experience in rig/laboratory based technical test and evaluation processes in the field of ICE systems, with a comprehensive understanding of the engineering discipline.
  3. Desire to further develop your own and your team's technical understanding in the field.
  4. Ability to evaluate and explain test methodologies and facility capabilities.
  5. A good understanding of laboratory equipment capability and flexibility.
  6. Good activity execution skills.
  7. Good planning and programme management skills.
  8. Ability to communicate and influence at operational level.
  9. Experience working in a technically contributing role within an ICE engineering environment.
