Job description

For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Job Description

Are you passionate about cutting-edge CFD and aerodynamics? Do you want to work in a fast-paced Formula 1 environment, where your simulations shape real-world race performance? This is your chance to join the world-class CFD and aerodynamics department at Red Bull Technology, contributing to the development of the next generation of race-winning cars.

The Role

As a CFD Methodology Engineer, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between CFD simulations and real-world aerodynamic performance. Your expertise will help refine numerical methods, turbulence models, and solver accuracy, ensuring that our simulations closely match wind tunnel and track data. This work will directly impact vehicle design, aerodynamic efficiency, and race strategy, helping Red Bull Technology maintain its competitive edge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance CFD accuracy by correlating simulations with wind tunnel and on-track data.
  • Optimize turbulence models (RANS, DES, LES) for more predictive aerodynamic performance.
  • Improve solver methods and numerical schemes to refine CFD simulations.
  • Work closely with aerodynamicists and race engineers to interpret correlation trends.
  • Analyse vehicle dynamics and real-world flow structures to improve CFD modelling fidelity.
  • Support HPC-driven CFD workflows and automation for more efficient simulations.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • MSc/PhD in CFD, Aerodynamics, Mechanical Engineering, or Applied Mathematics.
  • Strong experience with commercial or open-source CFD solvers.
  • Deep understanding of turbulence modelling, boundary layer physics, and numerical methods.
  • Experience with wind tunnel data analysis and trackside correlation techniques.
  • Proficiency in Python, Linux and C++ for post-processing and automation.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-performance, fast-paced motorsport environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in motorsport aerodynamic development (F1, WEC, Formula E, etc.).
  • Turbulence model calibration using experimental datasets.
  • Adjoint-based CFD optimization for aerodynamic design improvements.
  • Understanding of machine learning applications in CFD.
  • Familiarity with fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and aeroelastic simulations.
  • Experience with HPC environments and parallelized CFD workflows.

What We Offer

At Red Bull Racing & Technology, we’re more than a Formula 1 team—we’re a high-performance innovation hub, pushing the limits of what’s possible. We thrive on big ambitions, bold engineering, and a relentless drive to win. Our success is built on trust, collaboration, and the belief that the best ideas come from those who dare to challenge the norm.

Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy bonuses, private healthcare, a pension scheme, an on-site gym, free daily food allowance, and more. But above all, you’ll be part of a world-class team, powering cutting-edge technology and driving championship-winning cars. Ready to take on the challenge? Apply now and be part of the future of F1.
