Procurement Head's Industrial team are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of an innovative and progressive environmental management company.
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Category Manager to develop and execute procurement strategies for engineering-related categories. This role is crucial for ensuring cost efficiency, supplier performance, and contract compliance.

Reporting to the Engineering Procurement Manager, the Engineering Category Manager will focus on circa £7 million spend across high-risk, high-value engineering services and materials, supporting operational and maintenance needs efficiently.

This role would be home based but with a requirement to travel regularly to the sites in Yorkshire, Milton Keynes, Cambridgeshire and Hampshire.

Salary up to c£80,000 + Bonus + Car

Key Responsibilities of the Engineering Category Manager:

  1. Category Management & Strategy Development:
    Develop and execute category strategies for key engineering-related procurement categories, including conveyors & Stadler systems, refractories & high-pressure fabrication, LV & HV electrical services, boiler cleaning, fabrication & scaffolding, industrial cleaning & mechanical fitters, motors & hydraulics.

    Conduct market research and supplier benchmarking to identify best-value suppliers and contract opportunities.

    Identify cost-saving initiatives and efficiency improvements across engineering procurement.
  2. Tendering & Supplier Negotiations:
    Lead competitive tenders, supplier evaluations, and contract negotiations for engineering categories.

    Ensure procurement compliance with regulations and industry best practices.

    Work with suppliers to secure long-term, value-driven agreements that align with operational and CAPEX projects.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement & Supplier Management:
    Build strong relationships with site operations, engineering teams, and project managers to align procurement with business needs.

    Conduct supplier performance reviews, ensuring quality, safety, and risk mitigation.

    Support supplier onboarding, compliance with health & safety (HSEQ) requirements, and contract execution.

Requirements:
  1. Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  2. Strong technical procurement and supplier management expertise.
  3. Advanced negotiation and contract management skills.
  4. Strong data analysis capabilities.
  5. Excellent stakeholder engagement and project management skills.
  6. Ideally experienced in procurement within engineering, construction, or industrial sectors.
