Kingsway Care, CareGiver Role

Due to continued company growth, Kingsway Care is looking for CareGivers to join our friendly and valued team. Our Carers help clients to remain or become independent and happy at home by assisting with meal preparation, medication administration, personal care, and providing companionship.

Although care experience and qualifications are desirable, they are not essential as full, paid training is provided before you start. So, if you're reliable, naturally caring, and passionate about providing great, person-centred care, we'd love to hear from you!

Principal Responsibilities

  1. To meet the care needs of clients in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence. Care provided by CareGivers is expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the service user’s own family and will not include tasks that would normally be undertaken by a trained nurse. Only when trained to do so would care workers undertake any specialist tasks.
  2. To assist clients with all personal care needs including, undressing, washing, bathing, and toileting needs, including incontinence.
  3. To assist clients with mobility limitations and other physical disabilities and help to use and take care of mobility aids and personal equipment.
  4. To support and care for clients who are at the end of life stage.
  5. To engage in the promotion of mental and physical well-being of clients through companionship, inside and outdoor activities, sharing activities such as reading, writing, hobbies, and recreations.
  6. To make and change beds plus light domestic tasks within the household.
  7. Where required, to assist with service user’s laundry, including using a laundrette where necessary.
  8. To comply with the organisation’s policies and procedures at all times.
  9. To read through the clients' care plan and understand their medication needs.
  10. To report to the office any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a client.
  11. On a day-to-day basis, enable and assist clients to maintain as much autonomy and independence as possible.
  12. Appropriately support clients with capacity and those who lack capacity.
  13. Record appropriately all decisions made which relate to clients who lack capacity.
  14. Attend reviews of care if requested by the Client Coordinator.
  15. Update and continually improve practice by a mutually agreed method which may include attendance at staff meetings, learning support briefings, and one-to-one supervision.
  16. Take responsibility in conjunction with line manager for identifying further learning.
  17. All staff are required to attend mandatory training where appropriate.
  18. Be aware of requirements regarding codes of practice and relevant codes of conduct where issued by professional bodies.
  19. Understand the requirement of the New Fundamental Standard Regulations 9 – 20, in relation to the Care Quality Commission Inspect regime and its importance to your workplace practice.
  20. Promote good practice and be vigilant in recognising and reporting practice which does not meet the defined standard.
  21. To assist and contribute to any regulatory body inspection or monitoring visit.
  22. To always act to safeguard clients from any form of abuse and to report such concerns immediately.
  23. To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.

Health and Safety:

  1. All employees have a responsibility to abide by the safety practices and codes authorised by the organisation; they share equal responsibility with management for maintaining safe working practices.
  2. The above duties and responsibilities are intended to represent current priorities and are not exhaustive; the post holder may from time to time be asked to undertake other reasonable duties. Any changes will be made in discussion with the post holder in the light of service needs and will be commensurate with the grade and competencies of the post.
  3. Note: This job description is an outline only and may be amended to take account of changes within the department following discussion with the post holder.
