We have a great opportunity to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Altcourse, working as a CIAG Advisor. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site information

HMP Altcourse is a category B local prison, receiving sentenced and remand adult male prisoners as well as young offenders, from the Cheshire and Merseyside courts. The prison can accommodate up to 1,164 men and all are housed across 7 house blocks. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release.

What the role entails

As the Career Advice Information and Guidance Advisor at HMP Altcourse, you will be responsible for the delivery of a CAIG service to learners who are in custody. You will support them to make informed career and skills choices using a range of guidance tools to assess their suitability and identify any support required to achieve their goals and to help them transition to life post release.

Ideally you will want to be a part of a team which has at its core a focus on improving lives and enabling and equipping learners to develop, grow and be equipped for a life of work and success. You'll be a self-starter with a passion to learn and grow yourself and will bring passion, dedication, and positivity to your new role.

The following qualifications are listed as essential on the role profile. However, there might be options available for applicants with a suitable skillset and level of experience to apply and complete qualifications while in-post:

  1. Level 4 Information, Advice and Guidance qualification (or work towards and achieve within 12 months)
  2. Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.

We are also interested in speaking to individuals with the following qualifications. These are listed as desirable on the role profile and are not essential:

  1. TAQA Assessor (Level 3) or equivalent
  2. Level 5 teaching qualification or equivalent

Successful candidates will be offered a salary between 24,242.40 - 29,709 per annum, dependent on your level of qualification and experience.
