Job Summary

To ensure that the reception area and communication of the Practice runs smoothly, providing a high level of service to patients, doctors, nurses, and other members of the Practice team.

Main Duties of the Job

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE: 26.25 Hours per Week, 8.00am - 1.15 pm

To provide a high level of care navigation and reception service to Patients, Clinicians, and other members of the Practice Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct telephone and face-to-face contact with patients in a professional, friendly, and helpful manner.
  2. Care-navigate/signpost patients to the most appropriate health care professional ensuring appointments are allocated where required in line with practice protocol and procedure.
  3. Greet and direct patients and visitors.
  4. Respond to general enquiries.
  5. Take requests for prescriptions.
  6. Hand out prescriptions.
  7. Receive specimens from patients in line with relevant policy, procedure, and health and safety/infection control requirements.
  8. Respond to requests for test results, in line with practice protocol.
  9. Take requests for home visits in line with practice protocol.
  10. Liaise with associated Health Care Professionals.
  11. Register new patients and temporary residents.
  12. Respond to needs of the clinical team during surgery.
  13. Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services.
  14. Communicate with patients by letter using Microsoft Word.
  15. Input and extract information from Practice computer system.
  16. Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to the next shift, as necessary.

About Us

We are a large forward-thinking practice with more than 17,200 patients, based in purpose-built premises, in the center of Chorley. We have a multidisciplinary clinical team made up of Doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics, Pharmacists, First Contact Physios, a range of specialized Nurses, and Health Care Assistants. The practice benefits from a new management team which you would be joining, led by the Practice Business Manager who is supported by an Assistant Manager, a Finance Manager, an IT and Operations Manager, an Appointment Book Manager, and an ANP and Nurse Manager.

Qualifications and Experience Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in English & Maths.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Package plus any bespoke system.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Previous experience in a reception/customer service role.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in GP surgery or NHS role.
