Care Home Manager - RGN/RMN Complex Needs and Challenging Behaviour

JOB SUMMARY
My client is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Home Manager to oversee the daily operations of our care facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in senior care, including experience in care homes, nursing homes and challenging behaviour. As a Home Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered to our residents, while also leading and supervising a team of caregivers. Your leadership will be crucial in developing care plans that meet the individual needs of each resident, particularly those requiring dementia care.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and People Management:

1. To lead by example and develop effective teams within the Home.
2. Develop a positive working environment which nurtures and rewards good practice through a programme of training and development.
3. Provide regular supervision and annual appraisal to Team Leaders and Senior Members of staff in line with Company procedures and standards.
4. To ensure good quality working relationships are built and maintained between staff and the individuals they are supporting.
5. Ensure a range of meetings take place to include weekly residents and Team Leader meetings and fortnightly staff meetings.
6. Work with the Recruitment and Training Manager to ensure the recruitment and retention of staff with a positive value base and person centred approach.
7. Provide support and guidance to the staff team.
8. Ensure staff attend all mandatory and refresher training.
9. Where necessary ensure that all disciplinary and grievance procedures are carried out in line with Company policy and statutory requirements.
10. To manage change effectively.
11. Provide regular on call cover.
12. Ensure staff adhere to the Codes of Practice and rules, policies and procedures contained in the Staff Handbook.

Quality Management:

1. Ensure the Home is run in line with statutory and Home from Home care policies and procedures.
2. Ensure processes are in place and adhered to in line with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
3. Develop a culture which enables staff members to maximise their development and create areas of expertise within the service.
4. Undertake monthly Quality Assessment Audits to ensure a continuously improving service is provided.
5. Take responsibility for areas of development or leadership as directed by the Operations Manager.

Financial:

1. Manage delegated budgets to ensure resources are used to best effect, in line with Company policy and procedure.
2. Report financial discrepancies to the Operations Manager.
3. Ensure staff work and comply with financial systems in line with Company policies, procedures and guidelines.

Management:

1. Ensure information is collated and recorded in line with Quality Assessment Systems and CQC requirements.
2. Manage the appropriate maintenance of records and personal information in line with the Data Protection Act and to the standards required by Information Governance.
3. To attend reviews as appropriate.
4. To attend month Manager meetings and contribute to the agenda.
5. Ensure that all policies and procedures related to the running of the Home are adhered to.

Health & Safety:

1. Ensure the Home meets H&S regulations and guidance.
2. Complete RIDDOR and Reg.37 reports as required.
3. Ensure staff team completes H&S training as required.
4. To evaluate the risks of, and to protect, Service Users from threats to their health, welfare and normal developments from inside and outside the Home.
5. Complete risk assessments for staff, the Home and individuals living there.
6. Ensure the premises are kept clean and hygienic throughout.
7. At all times work within H&S policy and procedures.

Partnership Working:

1. Maintain effective links with Head Office, Surrey.
2. Maintain close contact with families/carers as appropriate, with the consent of the individuals being supported in the Home.
3. Implementing/monitoring and contributing to joint initiatives as required e.g. Person Centred Plans, Health Action Plans.
4. Celebrate and share success with Residents, colleagues and partners.

4. To undertake such duties and responsibilities reasonable consistent with the role as may be required from time to time by the Operations Manager.

These duties are not exhaustive. Job holders may be asked to undertake other responsibilities, within their spheres of responsibility and competence.

Requirements/Qualifications:

1. NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care (or willing to work towards).
2. Previous experience in a senior management role within a care home setting.
3. Sound knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation, including CQC requirements.
4. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with residents, families and external stakeholders.
6. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
7. A genuine passion for delivering high-quality care to residents.
