To provide enabling support for a 12-year-old male child with autism and ADHD. We are looking for a Support Worker/Enabler to provide 1:1 support.

1. Support the child to access age-appropriate community and leisure activities; including sports-oriented sessions locally.
2. Provide verbal prompts regarding safety and deliver clear, repetitive step-by-step instructions.
3. Be fit and energetic, ready to run a short distance if needed as the child may attempt to run off.
4. Take responsibility for administering medication, though the child can generally take this with minimal support.
5. Interpret the child’s needs through verbal communication and by noting changes in body language.
6. Respond positively and sensitively to any changes in behaviour.
7. Support the child to develop confidence and independence while learning ‘life skills’.
8. Provide close supervision maintaining the child’s safety in all settings; First Aid knowledge is an advantage.

The successful applicant must:

1. Have a positive understanding towards children with autism and ADHD.
2. Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs.
3. Have a high degree of initiative.
4. Be punctual and reliable.
5. Be prepared to be flexible.
6. Have a happy, positive caring nature.
7. Have a sense of humour.
8. Respect confidentiality.
9. Have a full UK driving license and own a personal car insured for business use.

To support 4 hours every other weekend and 5 hours per week in all school holidays; hours can be discussed and arranged flexibly.

£13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.

An enhanced DBS will be required, cost to be met by Northumberland County Council. Two references will also need to be provided.
