To provide enabling support for a 12-year-old male child with autism and ADHD. We are looking for a Support Worker/Enabler to provide 1:1 support.
MAIN DUTIES:- Support the child to access age-appropriate community and leisure activities; including sports-oriented sessions locally.
- Provide verbal prompts regarding safety and deliver clear, repetitive step-by-step instructions.
- Be fit and energetic, ready to run a short distance if needed as the child may attempt to run off.
- Take responsibility for administering medication, though the child can generally take this with minimal support.
- Interpret the child’s needs through verbal communication and by noting changes in body language.
- Respond positively and sensitively to any changes in behaviour.
- Support the child to develop confidence and independence while learning ‘life skills’.
- Provide close supervision maintaining the child’s safety in all settings; First Aid knowledge is an advantage.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:The successful applicant must:
- Have a positive understanding towards children with autism and ADHD.
- Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs.
- Have a high degree of initiative.
- Be punctual and reliable.
- Be prepared to be flexible.
- Have a happy, positive caring nature.
- Have a sense of humour.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Have a full UK driving license and own a personal car insured for business use.
HOURS:To support 4 hours every other weekend and 5 hours per week in all school holidays; hours can be discussed and arranged flexibly.
RATE OF PAY:£13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.
An enhanced DBS will be required, cost to be met by Northumberland County Council. Two references will also need to be provided.
