Job Summary

To lead and develop a cohesive strategy for the collection, collation reporting and validation of all required Cardiothoracic data relating to the TAVI programme and Southwest Cardiothoracic Centre, as requested by the Directorate and in response to the Peninsula Cardiac Network.

To ensure the data is accurate, timely, relevant and to promote a continuous programme of information sharing for all users across the organisation and the interested stakeholders.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a comprehensive data programme that supports the needs of the service both locally and nationally.
  • To lead the development of timely, accurate data collection with the ability to validate, audit and produce reports.
  • To work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams to ensure a continuous programme of improvement.
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships across the health community in relation to data requirements and reliability.
  • To provide line management responsibility for the data team within the Directorate.

Job Description

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake the lead role in the collection and collation of all required and relevant data for the Southwest Cardiothoracic Centre.
  • To ensure that all required reports are submitted to the national data sets in a timely fashion and are robust in nature.
  • To develop a robust mechanism for ensuring all clinical staff are able to access and utilise the data as required with a clear understanding of the data analysis.
  • To promote a sense of data ownership amongst all members of the team.
  • To work in close collaboration with the Clinical and Performance Information Teams in determining service needs, reactive to the current market.
  • To develop a communication system via appropriate meetings, updates, audits and presentations as required across the Directorate, the Trust and the Network.
  • To work in partnership with all key stakeholders to maximise utilisation of data to inform and implement enhanced quality in clinical care.
  • To analyse data, ensuring information is fit for purpose.
  • To act as line manager for the data team within the Directorate, ensuring good HR practice is applied.
  • To provide informatics support to the management teams for any implementation of new projects based on IT systems.
  • To act as Directorate project lead for any IT related project, producing timely reports for the wider circulation.
  • To take a lead role in the 18 week clinical pathway projects, developing audit tools for the directorate / Network team to utilise for the future Commissioning of services.
  • To attend monthly directorate/ Network meetings to present activity information, analysing inadequate data for variances.
  • To ensure data is regularly audited for timeliness, accuracy and completeness and in addition forward judgements and options once data has been analysed/ compared for a range of facts and data.
  • To support the Directorate Manager / Network in the preparation and production of Commissioner / Directorate and Trust reports both local and national when required.
  • To actively participate in service improvement schemes by supporting and challenging colleagues in relation to the benefits informatics can offer in improving service delivery across the whole health economy.
Person Specification

Demonstrable experience in information management within a health care environment.

Essential
  • Demonstrable experience in Advanced computer and analytical skills in software for data entry and retrieval.
