Cardiology Research Administrator & Data Coordinator

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

A vacancy has arisen in our Academic Directorate of Cardiology & Cardiothoracic Surgery to support the Research Coordinator. The role involves providing administrative support to the cardiology research team and data coordination of cardiology research studies. It is expected that the role will be hybrid, with a mixture of on-site and home-based working.

Who we are looking for

The Directorate is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to provide a high-quality administrative support service to the Directorate. The applicant must have excellent organisational and communication skills as the role involves liaising with other departments and hospitals as well as nursing, medical and managerial staff and some remote contact with patients.

Candidates will need to display accurate keyboard skills and have experience managing a diverse workload. Additionally, a commitment to personal training and development, strong IT skills, a flexible approach to working, administrative experience, and awareness of research processes and governance are required.

Main Duties of the Job

The role of Research Administrator & Data Coordinator provides comprehensive administrative support in the following areas:

  • Collection of accrual data
  • Database maintenance
  • Data collection and coordination of studies
  • Good Clinical Practice training
  • Meeting facilitation
  • Coordinating the Patient Panel activities

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs (including English and Maths) at Grade C or above
  • Qualification to level 3 gained through either Secretarial (OCRIII) or Administrative (NVQ3) routes or equivalent knowledge gained through short courses, on-the-job training and experience of non-routine administration and establishing administrative procedures.
  • A high level of knowledge of IT systems, database/web-based packages is essential but may be demonstrated through either qualification or demonstrable experience of system use.
  • A level(s) in biology or biological sciences
  • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)

  • Ability to travel, if required

Experience

  • Proven, relevant experience as an administrator working within busy office environments, developing and improving systems, providing secretarial support to a team, dealing with people at all levels and contributing positively.
  • Experience of managing a diverse workload.
  • Experience of contributing towards the development, implementation and quality assurance of systems.
  • Experience of working within a research, NHS, university or other public sector environment.
  • Understanding of health services research and the legislative and regulatory arena.
  • Knowledge of research legislation including research governance, ICH GCP and Medicines for Human Use Regulations, research ethics.
  • Excellent time-management skills and the capability of balancing routine tasks with more complex demands as they arise.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work accurately, particularly when dealing with conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to monitor and plan in advance own workload and prioritise according to the needs of the service.
  • Proven team-player with the ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Methodical and pays meticulous attention to detail.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to understand, record, communicate and analyse verbal and written information to a high standard.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing professionally with internal and external queries, referring on as appropriate.
  • Understanding the sensitivity surrounding confidential issues.
  • Strong IT skills that must include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
