Cancer Patient Pathway Coordinator Team Leader

This is an Operational Lead role to support the Patient Pathway Coordinators (PPC), MDT Coordinators, Assistant PPC, Admin Support, and Data officers.

The candidate will assist the Cancer Information Managers in:

  1. Acting as the Operational contact point for the Patient Pathway Coordinators (PPC), MDT Coordinators, Assistant PPC, Admin Support, and Data officers.
  2. Being responsible for the accurate collection of cancer waiting times information through effective supervision of Patient Pathway Coordinators in conjunction with the Cancer Information Managers.
  3. Monitoring information and working with the Cancer Information Managers for dissemination to meet cancer waiting times targets.
  4. Supporting the Patient Pathway Coordinators / MDT Coordinators in the collection and upload of National Clinical Audits.
  5. Supporting the Patient Pathway Coordinators / MDT Coordinators in the collection and upload of National Cancer Peer Review.
  6. Undertaking direct line management responsibilities on a day-to-day basis for the Patient Pathway Coordinators (PPC), MDT Coordinators, Assistant PPC, Admin Support, and Data officers.

Main duties of the job

Actively support the Trust's Patient Pathway Coordinators (PPC), MDT Coordinators, Assistant PPC, Admin Support, and Data officers in maintaining a clear overview of all patients currently active in their pathway. Produce, analyse, and present information at the weekly Cancer PTL meetings.

Analyse, interpret, and present data to the Cancer Information Managers and the weekly Cancer PTL to highlight any issues with clinical capacity or medical staffing and support the Directorates in decision-making processes.

Work alongside the Cancer Information Managers in recruitment, induction, and training of newly appointed Patient Pathway Coordinators (PPC), MDT Coordinators, Assistant PPC, Admin Support, and Data officers.

Ensure that good practice is identified and shared within the team, using motivational and negotiating skills to foster collaboration and continuous improvement.

Possess extensive knowledge of the NHS cancer plan, NHS cancer peer review measures, and be an expert in cancer waiting times.

Finding breach reasons will require the candidate to analyse and research complex systems.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Degree or equivalent and relevant experience.

Skills

  • Intimate knowledge and understanding of Cancer Waiting Times and national guidance.
  • Experience working with the NHS or another large organisation.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines.

People Management and Development

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and influence individuals within the organisation.
  • Ability to manage difficult situations, including challenging behaviour.
