CAD Technician/ Design Engineer

On behalf of our client on the outskirts of Cosham, we are looking to recruit an experienced CAD Technician/ Design Engineer. This is a permanent role in a growing engineering company that produces high precision, bespoke, low volume parts and is regularly investing into the business and their staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CADCAM software & design/drafting, technical support, and reverse engineering within component manufacturing. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in updating drawings, maintaining records, and supporting shop floor production.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Create and update technical drawings and models using CAD software based on component samples and specifications.
  2. Utilise CAM software to prepare machine programs and set up production processes.
  3. Work with 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.
  4. Conduct reverse engineering of components from samples to develop accurate technical drawings and documentation.
  5. Analyse component designs to identify areas for improvement or modification.
  6. Maintain comprehensive records of all drawings, specifications, and design changes in accordance with company procedures.
  7. Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and accessible for reference by team members.
  8. Provide technical assistance to shop floor technicians, facilitating the use of CAD/CAM tools and techniques.
  9. Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving related to component production and design, and QA issues.
  10. Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure designs are feasible and meet manufacturing capabilities.
  11. Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, design challenges, and solutions.
  12. Stay informed about advancements in CAD/CAM technology and industry best practices to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  13. Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at optimising production workflows.

Experience Required:

  1. Solid engineering background, preferably in a component manufacturing and machining environment.
  2. Proficiency in CAD and CAM software; all software backgrounds considered as software training can be given (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
  3. Experience in reverse engineering and component manufacturing processes would be an advantage.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Recognised formal production engineering qualification, industrial manufacturing design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  6. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  7. Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
